I had hip pain so bad that I couldn't walk some days. My hip would lock. It didn't get better until I started going to the chiropractor. I go less often now. I also do yoga and Pilates to help.

I have had a lot of hip/pelvic pain since about 20 weeks (currently 35 weeks). I am a PE teacher and have found on my more physical days at work, I have more pain as the day goes on and I sometimes have difficulty standing up and walking. My sacroiliac joint cracks with every step on bad days, and it always cracks at night when I am rolling over or trying to get out bed.

Things that have helped me are super hot showers and rarely I will take Tylenol if it is super bad. I also found that I can no longer do things that require me to put weight on only one leg while the other is lifted (putting on pants/underwear - I have to sit down for it). I also have found that it helps to keep your knees together when rolling over in bed.

One of my biggest triggers is getting up off the floor when playing with my toddler. I found that I can't put one leg up into a kneel and pull myself up, I have to put both feet underneath me and stand up in a squat type of position. Finally, the biggest thing is that I just have to take it easy. I am at the point now where if I just sit on my butt as much as possible, it is manageable, but once I start walking around too much or lifting up my toddler too often, my pelvis gets all jacked up.

I had terrible hip pain with both pregnancies; worse and earlier the second time. I went to the chiropractor, wore a support belt 24/7 (the chiro told me the support belt will also help my hip pain; I wrongly thought it was only for back or belly pain), and slept with a long pillow between my legs from top to past my toes.

I had awful hip pain from about 22 to 26 weeks, in one hip more than the other. It continued after that, but got better. I think it was mostly due to my hips spreading out. Sleeping with a pillow between my legs helped, I used a narrow down throw pillow.

DS gave me sciatic nerve pain (lower back). Seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis and wearing a maternity belt when I was on my feet for prolonged times helped a lot!

With DD, I have tail bone pain and random pinched nerve pains. Getting adjusted by my chiro helped relieved all these pains.

I have had hip pain since late second tri - so 13-14 months ago! For me, it seems to be muscular concentrated in the left hip/buttocks. During pregnancy, I would have DH massage my hip and butt every night before bed, which helped a lot. I also used a pillow between my knees when sleeping, and occasionally still do 10 months PP. My prenatal/postnatal yoga instructor, who is a physiotherapist, recommends stretching and exercise. When I'm more active I can go days without any pain or discomfort. Yoga therapy balls also help, placing a ball where the pain is localized and rolling it against the wall. Heat helps a bit, too.

I had quite a lot of hip/pelvic pain from about 27-32 weeks. It went away when baby flipped head-down from transverse!

I'm actually dealing with some bad pain today but I think it's radiating from my sacroiliac joint. Switching off between ice and heat seams to help, as well as doing some general stretches.

@pastemoo: I just used a reg pillow or body pillow - there were only so may ways i could sleep near the end. It got better after birth but truly resolved after I weaned at 15 months... same with my wrist pain. I was told everytime i brought it up that it was tendons and the hormones that loosen everything up

I got sciatica with both pregnancies but it was extra bad the second time. Seeing the chiropractor for adjustment and deep massage helped a ton. Also wearing a pregnancy support belt helped. The only thing that cured it completely was delivering the baby.

The pain was mostly in my right back hip area and would shoot down my butt and leg when I moved the wrong way.

Also I always slept with a pillow between my knees.

@pastemoo: I have chronic hip pain that's the result of a fall years ago. The pain is exacerbated during pregnancy. Some days it is unbearable and I can barely walk. I got a pregnancy support belt with A. It is legit night and day with the belt on versus not. The one I got was less than $10 on Amazon!

I tried to stretch a lot and sleep with pillows between my legs

Can you talk to me about your pregnancy hip pain?

I know there a lots of kinds of pregnancy hip pain--and that pregnancy itself can increase your chance of injury from overstretching ligaments.

But I don't know how to tell if the pain is from an injury or from being pregnant--or from an injury you only were able to incur because you're pregnant.

Can you talk to me about the kinds of hip pain you've had while pregnant, when it happens, what you do to help, and if you do any exercise or physical therapy, or warm compresses or anything to help (or cause) this pain?

Mine slowly started around 20-something weeks. Was occasional and tolerable. By the end of pregnancy, it was constant and in both hands/wrists. Braces didn't even help. I tried acupuncture and that did nothing either. It was terrible. I remember nights where I'd wake up in tears because it hurt so bad. It took a little while for it to go away postpartum too.

@blackbird: When did it go away? During pregnancy, or post partum?
@travellingbee: Ugh. Trigger finger, too? Boo. I hope it gets better soon!
@Mrs. Train: "As soon as I delivered it stopped" aren;t those magical words?
@MrsGeePerez: Did you get the wrist braces? So interesting to see how common it really is. I know the doctors say how common it is but, wow.
@JennyLayneAZ: Ugh! Can you also get a wrist support for your keyboard and/or adjust the height of your chair (or keyboard)?
@iluvboba637: Yeah... I was a medical assistant and couldn't draw up injections anymore and all my handwriting became typing because I couldn't hold the pencil straight.
@runnerd: Ugh, that is rough! I hope it's not as bad this time.
@mauxie: I wouldn't say almost painful, I would say actually painful. I'm a wimp.
@LovelyPlum: Hm, I hadn't heard of epsom salt helping. Interesting!

I had it in both hands. It was awful. I used wrist splints for the last 10-12 weeks. I was also told that massaging your wrists up to your elbows can help, as does Epsom salt baths. It is caused by swelling around the nerve, or so I understand.

I had pregnancy carpal tunnel with #1 starting around 25 weeks. It started as my hands falling asleep/numb when I slept, and progressed to daily pain that included my forearms, and was made worst by my desk job typing. I couldn't close my hands into a fist the last month or so of pregnancy. I remember almost crying several nights and begging DH for massages. I didn't treat it, just dealt.

This pregnancy, the hands falling asleep at night is already starting at 17 weeks, so I'm sorta scared for the future months..

Me! On off all day and night long but especially with fine motor. I actually had extremely mild carpal tunnel pains once in awhile before my first pregnancy but nothing serious. Then carpal tunnel numbing ~18wks preg w DS which went away after birth but mild numbing returned after I weaned from the pump when DS was ~14months. Shortly before my BFP with this pregnancy the numbing disappeared only to return ~16 wks preg again and this time even worse. I can't open jars and my pincer grasp is terrible.

I wear wrist braces at night which helps from getting awoken from severe numbing but I still wake up with numb hands and mild soreness in the morning.

I just get numb when I use my hands for fine detail stuff (small crafts, writing, and fine motor stuff).

Did you take any supplements or wear wrist braces?

When did it start for you? Did you get it in each pregnancy?
Talk to me about your hand symptoms.

I had this last pregnancy, too, and all I remember was "Oh, carpal tunnel is super common in pregnancy, wait this isn't carpal tunnel" and "It will go away when the baby is born" (it did).
