I got kaiser specifically for my pregnancy. It was fabulous, I have no complaints. I liked being able to contact doctors and see test results via the app. The kaiser hospital is too far away so they deliver at the great hospital in my city which was nice for me personally. I think I would consider switching back to kaiser for my next pregnancy!

We''ve been with Kaiser since just before we had DS1 and I'm very happy with it. We paid $750 for a two month nicu stay, I like the online features, I've never had issues getting referrals...

I actually switched to Kaiser while ttc because they cover more infertility treatment than most other insurance. I ended up needing a bunch of special procedures and tests and I got super quick referrals to hospitals outside of the kaiser system (when they don't offer it). Then I went into preterm labor and my son had a 5 month NICU stay. Almost everything was really good.

Now I particularly like the after hours pediatrics. It's really efficient and a normal office.

@Corduroy: @Raindrop: Thanks so much for the feedback. Kaiser is so huge, I figured each facility would differ. Great to hear from a few different perspectives.

I read your response to corduroy and I just wanted to tell you my experience. I did have one OB for all my prenatal.

When I gave birth it was who was ever on call, because I was in labor for about 16 hours. I actually went through 3 on call OBs. :) One them happened to be an OB I knew but not my specific OB. For my kaiser we don't have midwives handling the births but I think the kaiser up a few cities from me does. So yup I think it depends what hospital you happen to be at.

@shortiecake: It depends on your office and hospital. I prioritized my schedule over sticking with the same doctor for all appointments so I saw OBs and midwives for my pre natal visits. The hospital I delivered at had midwives for vaginal delivery. I also saw a doctor during delivery because there was concern I would have to have a C section but she cleared me to continue vaginally. I don't know if it is the same across Kaiser.

@sooz: Thank you! The appointment process has always been pretty great.

@Raindrop: Thank you! I've been to numerous Kaiser specialties (aside from OB) but I'm so happy to hear your most recent experience with them is that they're proactive and eager to address the issues you've been experiencing. I'm sure that peace of mind is priceless!

@Corduroy: Thanks so much! I agree about the "financial stuff" being handled in a relatively straight-forward, behind the scenes way.

Is it true that you choose your OB to see for all prenatal visits and then for the birth you see a midwife or doula? I heard that most deliveries at Kaiser are done by a midwife unless a C-section is required.

I have Kaiser and I had Kaiser for the birth of my first son in early 2012. I really liked it because it had the lowest C-section rate in my area. From talking to my OB Kaiser really supports low intervention births because they believe the more interventions you have the higher chance for C-section and they really support vaginal births. Which was in line with what I wanted.

I ended having a medicated vaginal birth with no doula.

This is not to say they won’t do C-sections if they were needed or that they would stop you from taking medication. When I wanted medication I was given it right away. It’s just that all the birth classes and such gear towards trying an unmedicated birth first.

I had a pretty easy going pregnancy with our first and when he was born had jaundice and they took really good care of him during that time.

During my second pregnancy I have been having some issues… aka bleeding starting at 7 weeks and every time I have emailed my OB she always tells me to come in which has been such a peace of mind during those early weeks. I also have GD this time around and the resources for that has been great. I also have a low placenta which I’m getting reviewed this week to see if it has resolved. So far I have been satisfied with the care I have gotten from them.

I also have Kaiser and I think it's great. As the above poster said, it's nice to have everything all in one place. They're also very accommodating in terms of your birth plan and it was a huge plus that the lactation consultants were on site to help and very easy to get appointments.

I'm at Kaiser right now for a pre natal appointment. We had LO1 with Kaiser in 2013. We've liked the simplicity of having all the insurance financial stuff done behind the scenes. Lactation consultants were easy to access.I love having pediatricians available on the weekends, emailing doctors, and telephone appointments. Generally LO & I are in very good health so I can't speak to any specialist care.

I did have a doula-attended unmedicated birth at Kaiser.

Just curious about your experience with Kaiser insurance.

I have Kaiser through my job - I've always had it and in general, I like it. I'm also on my husband's insurance - he's in health care and the insurance plan is through his hospital. We're TTC and I'm unsure if I should plan on doing all my pregnancy-related care with Kaiser (which I'm used to) or switching to his plan.

Does anyone have any experience with Kaiser (good or bad!) that would help me decide to stay…or go? Thanks!
