I don't think this is much better than what you use at home, but this is we used to carry around, and use in the house - https://www.target.com/p/prince-lionhea-potty-ring/-/A-17008576#lnk=sametab

We used to carry it in a plastic bag and mostly leave it in the car unless we needed it. Or we'd throw it in the bottom of the stroller. I'd put a liner or paper down on the seat before using it, and if I needed to I'd rinse it in the sink. At the time I was tempted to get a folding one but I never pulled the trigger on it. And he grew surprisingly fast. After a few months we were able to skip the seat.

It is over an inch smaller in all dimensions than our Ubbi seat.

@lilyofthewest: Ahhh ok. I have a once-a-day to every-other-day pooper. It hasn’t happened yet that he has had to go in public. Well, he did on Saturday at the park but it was time to go home so he just held it till we got there. He’s also still not 100% committed to pooping on the potty yet. Lol. I’m hoping that peer pressure at school this year will encourage it!
And yeah, those folding stools are awesome. I also have 3 - one in kitchen, my room and my sons room. Love!

@SweetiePie: My kid poops a lot :P and luckily (or unluckily) is happy to poop anywhere. Folding step stools are awesome though -- we have three and I recommend them heartily to anyone/everyone!

@lilyofthewest: I couldn't find a photo, sorry!

Another solution is to have him straddle the toilet, you can use one of those paper covers.

@raspberries: we used that one too. It's fine. At this point LO holds onto the sides of the big toilet. It's not the best.

We used the Potette all the time not on a toilet with the bags. It's great for the park and other places I would rather not take LO into the bathroom. So far he doesn't mind hiding behind the stroller to do his business.

@lilyofthewest: Yeah I think with boys they either have to stand or just really really tuck their penis down. I know you know this :-) Just agreeing that the “splash guards” really aren’t affective.
Is he too short to stand right now? If so, maybe a folding step stool like this to keep in the car or bottom of stroller?

@raspberries: T@SweetiePie: Thanks! I bought the OXO because the reviews for the fold-up seats were so mediocre for boys, but, these are a lot more like the seats he likes...this might be the way to go.

@lilyofthewest: Have you tried turning the potty seat so that the opening faces the back of the toilet?

I never could manage the folding seat with my son, I used to have him stand on the seat, which I know isn't ideal, but it worked the 2 or 3 times we did it.

@lilyofthewest: my son wouldn't pee sitting down so we eventually relented and allow him to pee outside (when appropriate). That resolved the issue for him and luckily my daughter doesn't mind using the portable potty.

We have the Potette and I agree with you that it's terrible. My kids would never sit on it so I ended up putting the Bjorn we no longer need in my car. I bring her back to the car if she needs to go potty while we are at a park, etc and then dump/clean it when we get home.

Long story short: I need a rec for a relatively compact but stable and splash-free potty ring. We have one of the ultra-compact folding ones but don't like it; I'm hoping there's something a tad smaller than the seats we use at home.

My kid uses the Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10272788/) and Ubbi (https://smile.amazon.com/Ubbi-Adjustable-Trainer-Handles-Included/dp/B010FJ9PWE/) ones at home and the Bjorn seat (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009PAN7Q/)at school. He's fine with all of them.

We have the OXO folding seat (similar to the Potette) for the diaper bag and my kid and I hate it. It is less stable than ideal and the design angles him such that pee gets everywhere. I borrowed a friend's Potette and didn't find it to be any better.

Our Ubbi seat isn't too bad to carry around, but, if there's something a little more compact, that'd make me a happy mama!
