@cyoung: As long as it's doubling, that's what matters. With each of my losses the level wasn't doubling. Obviously, things can still go wrong, and if her family history is of later first trimester loss that wouldn't be apparent at this point, but if the level doubles that's a really good sign!

@CatchAFallingStar: @ttcgirl: okay so good news. Apparently the numbers did double!!! Idk if there was miscommunication between the nurses or what. But her progesterone is low so they went ahead and put her on supplements. She texted me this this morning.

Also we have no clue when she ovulated. They were having a few relaxed cyles with ttcing at least for a few months. Her period is weird and sometimes she bleeds like two times a month and she did this past month so her due date is up in the air till she gets further along and has a scan. She only tested cause she was nauseous and cramping a ton. I think she is just now 4 weeks or so.

The HCG level is not as important as whether it doubles (approximately) in 48 hours. If the HCG levels are rising appropriately then progesterone can help for a sticky pregnancy but unfortunately if they are not there is not much that can be done. Wishing her the best

Ask her to ask for the second beta level.. that's the number she needs to know. Progesterone can only help so much. It can't stop a miscarriage. It can help with the lining of the uterus, but needs to be taken during the luteal phase (right after ovulation) to really be helpful.

So my best friend got pregnant for the first time. They just started trying. Her family has a history of miscarriage so her doctor told her to go ahead and come in to check her levels. Long story short her levels hadn't risen a lot. It was 40 when she went in. She doesn't remember the second draw number cause she was really disappointed. They said her progesterone was low. It was 17 and it needs to be 21. They are putting her on supplements.

Will progesterone help the pregnancy stick and grow? I've never dealt with that side of pregnancy. We are just curious and wondering. She thinks it won't stick and is assuming she will miscarry.

@foodiebee: I'm sorry you are going through this too! I don't know much about endo, I had 2 successful pregnancies and didn't have any trouble getting pregnant, so it has never been a suspicion before. I'm going to ask my doctor about it though, and pay closer attention to my pain symptoms, since I've always just focused on the spotting.

@lamariniere: Yes, I have very similar symptoms to this, including the rectal pain, living on the toilet during my period, groin aches/pains, etc. Also horrible back pain, night sweats, hot flashes. I also had a very short luteal phase, consistently around 10 days, longest ever was 12. I'd start spotting around 8-9 days and then get AF on day 10. My RE diagnosed me with endo unconfirmed via surgery (but every dr I've ever seen has been pretty convinced based on my symptoms; no one feels like there's any doubt) because we decided to move straight to IVF first.

@lamariniere: Worth checking out for sure but could be just random ... that’s what we concluded at least for that red bleeding cycle of mine, it also started really early but next was back to “normal”. I hope it’s just one weird cycle to have it starting so early!

@bhbee: your spotting sounds similar to mine, but this month it started about 4dpo, which is unusual for me and sparked my visit to the gyno. I have really painful ovulation, especially on the right side. I occasional have the rectal pain, but not often. Cramps are usually not that bad, I don’t take any pain relievers for them.

@lamariniere: do you have the pain issues also or just spotting?

It’s normal for me to spot like crazy. I’ve never gotten resolution nor honestly had anyone very concerned, more like “well that’s unfortunate maybe you should try birth control”. I once got an ultrasound for a bunch of midcycle red bleeding. But my norm would be to spot by 11dpo if not 9dpo and progress to get AF around 16dpo. And AF can drag out with spotting also. Super annoying, but it did let me know early about failed ttc cycles ...

Bump!

I know this is an old thread, but my spotting issues have become very similar to the OP's. I saw my gyno this week who did an US of my uterus (normal) and ran a PAP, HPV and STD testing to rule out anything (all negative). I am not TTC. She said the next course of action is antibiotics for 10 days in case the testing missed something, and if bleeding continues after, a hysteroscopy. Has anyone had a similar experience, or previous posters, have your issues resolved?

@JessieKoger: my OB told me some cramping in the first trimester is totally normal. Your uterus is expanding. But it's always a good idea to get checked out.

Also, my RE had be on pelvic rest whenever I was doing progesterone suppositories because there is an increased chance of bleeding.

@JessieKoger: you're bleeding and cramping, I think you are justified to call the OB and get some beta hcg run. (It will have to be 48 hours apart so that'd be Thurs and Sat if they're open)
This is coming from someone who had a terrible first trimester and "felt annoying" calling the OB when you know what, fuck it, you are a paying customer :-)

I didn’t do IUI, but I did have to use progesterone suppositories for both pregnancies due to low progesterone.

Both times I had spotting even after starting the progesterone. And at least once each pregnancy I called into the office in a panic because the spotting seemed heavier than “normal.” (It once happened in the middle of a super important work meeting: I had a quick cry in the bathroom, finished my meeting, and called the after hours call line.) It awful and stressful and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I have two happy, healthy kids now, but my first trimester was pretty miserable both times.

Have you called your doctor to tell her about the cramping?

I've become quite a frequent poster on here, but this is my first pregnancy that's lasted this long, so every little thing worries me... I had an IUI on 10/10 and started progesterone suppositories 2 days after. My pregnancy was confirmed on 10-26 and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. Last Thursday 11-8, I noticed spots of blood on my underwear, and also when I wiped. I immediately called the on call nurse and she recommended for me to make an appt the next day. Long story short, ultrasound was great and we saw a little heartbeat. I bled for about 3 days after that and during that time I didn't really have any cramping. However, yesterday I started to cramp more and my right hip started to hurt. The cramps felt like a pulling/ pinching and on occasion would feel like a stab, but would go away within seconds. I decided to take a pregnancy test (probably a dumb idea) and the control line was darker than the test line, which was unsettling because the test line has been darker.. I'm not sure if it's something to worry about, but of course I am anyway. I have an appt next Monday with my dr, but that feels like forever away. Can anyone else relate with any of my situation??
