I had a Beaba babycook. At the time, I was living abroad and didn't have access to a microwave, a large freezer or a food processor.

We like our Beaba Babycook, with two chambers. It's nice because you can steam and blend the food in the same appliance, so there's less clean up. You can make big batches to freeze with two chambers.

I loved my baby brezzo. I didn't have a food processor (still don't, actually) so I wanted something. I liked the brezzo because I did everything in one container - throw the food in, set it to steam for whatever amount of time, and at the end of steaming, it automatically purees. There was a booklet that gave recommended steaming times and recipes.

Ah hah! I was wrong - mine is a Kitchenaid and looking through some reviews of current models of Kitchenaids many people comment that they're annoying to clean and the Cuisinarts generally have better reviews. I think I may have found my problem :silly:

@erinbaderin: maybe I just need a new food processor cause I think mine is a pain to clean. I think its annoying to scrape food off the blade and out of the funny shaped bowl. It bugs me when I use it to cook though too so that's probably the real issue. Its a basic Cuisinart but its probably 10 years old at this point...

With DS1 I tried for a very short time to make my own purees. He didn't like them and I found my food processor frustrating to use for this purpose. I want to give it another go with DS2 and am thinking maybe a better piece of gear will help - but there's so many choices and so many price points. So what do you like/hate about yours? I'm especially interested in how it does for making different textures, ease of cleaning and getting food out/into other storage containers, and footprint in your kitchen. Thanks!

@regberadaisy: I do pack some snacks for her to gnaw on, but she's only at 2 meals a day right now (breakfast and dinner) and usually that is done at home. And yes, she is SUPER messy and really only likes eating messy foods (Avocado, tomatoes, peaches....).

Also, depending on the food, I'm sure you could keep them in your diaper bag for a few hours in a cooler bag. I keep LO's juice in a bottle cooler bag along with some food if we need it.

@brownie: thanks - i will check out the gerber dried fruit and veggie melts! I wish I had a dog that can "clean" the high chair and "mob" the floor for me too..

@NYCaliMama: Thank you for the encouragement ! Now I am less worried about the iron levels...

@LivsMama: I know! there had never been iron-fortified cereals when I grew up! Why do they make it such a big fuss nowadays and having handouts saying they must eat 3-9 tbs of iron-fortified cereal by xx months. To me that's very absurd...

In terms of BLW - it is not like I don't let him pick up his food. I tried giving him puree in those infant self-feeders - he'd smack the thing on the tray while puree flew EVERYWHERE. Then he'd use his other hand to squeeze the "head" of the feeder so puree just came out and he smooshed it with his hands! I gave him pieces of banana he'd squash it with his hands. So far the least messy is cheerios but also they'd drop everywhere. Many times he just made a mess and barely ate anything. Spoon fed at least I can make sure he ate something while avoid his hands when he tries to grab the spoon. But you are right it can get messier than self feeding in some ways... but at least it is only on him, not everywhere else in the house!

@baby98765: @sarac: I suspect it has something to do with teething too because he also had nursing strike last week. He seemed to have "stablized" from nursing strike and he ate a bit better today. Knock on wood!
