With DD1 we rear-faced her until she was almost 3.5 and I had to stand my ground since my husband wanted her faced forward sooner. He understood my safety concerns but was concerned because DD1 has long legs and he thought it would be worst in a crash where she could break her legs. I had to remind him broken legs better than neck injuries and he understood that too.

DD2 is currently 21 months and we just had her switched out of her infant seat into a rear-facing convertible. I plan to keep her rear facing for as long as DD1 was, if not longer (she has shorter legs so DH should be less worried about the scrunch factor).

With my first we turned her just before age 2 because she was having screaming issues in the car and it wasn't safe for us to drive.

DS may also need to turn at 2 when the new baby comes so we can do three seats across

Rear facing at 3.5 years. Although the odd time I'll have to use the car over our van he will have to forward face as he outgrew the RF height limit for the seat in our car. Although now that I'm on mat leave for a year, I have no reason to use the car with the kids unless the van breaks down. Only when I was working and in our old daycare, DH and I had to alternate pick up and drop off with different vehicles.

DS2 -2 months and rear facing :)

Rear facing at 2 (35" & 30 lbs). We won't turn him until he outgrows his seat. I've been in an accident with him in the car and he came through with no issues even though the other car hit his door. I attribute that to the fact that he was rear facing.

LO2 is 3 and still RF. He will hit the limit on his seat soon but I might be getting him a new seat anyway. Will try to get as close to 4 as possible.
I didn't have strong opinions on this issue, but as the kids got older it made sense to just leave them as they were until there was a reason to switch, especially if it's a little safer.
