@irene: Did you put tubes in? My LO is 17 months, she's had 4 ear infections in the last 6 months. Her pedi tells me this is normal. I am worried about the constant antibiotic use and also worried about the possibility of tubes. AHHHH!

@irene: didn't mean to make you worry! I don't think it's permanent hearing loss that they experience, it's mostly temporary since they have fluid in their ears and things may sound muffled. It usually gets better after their ears clear up!

@aprk: The thing is, his ears cleared up when he was on antibiotic. Why I know is because he got a virus while he was on antibiotic and got a fever and we went to the doctor. So it seems like the bacteria didn't die off. Sigh. Whatever bacteria/germ is in the air, he'd go catch. Good job. son.

Thanks for your advice... I'll think about seeing a chiropractor...

@T-Mom: That's great you got a good ENT.... I still have to do my research tomorrow... I hope there is no hearing loss!! But it does make me worry a bit now that you mentioned, because LO is still not speaking words from the human languages now that he's almost 14 months.

So sorry to hear about your LO! Well it is good to see the ENT because they will likely do a hearing test to make sure your LO hasn't experienced any hearing loss. We had a great experience getting tubes for DD. She had several more ear infections than your DS, though. With warm weather approaching and cold season ending soon, I can see why you might want to wait it out. But tubes might be worth it if he keeps getting back to back infections. For us, DD was so unhappy and had used up all possible antibiotics, so we didn't feel we had much choice. Thankful it was a simple procedure and things improved 100% afterwards.

Yuck, I'm so sorry! I had a ton of ear infections as a kid too. Have you considered taking him to a chiropractor? I've heard great things about them helping with chronic conditions, especially ear related. Lots of times the antibiotics just mask the symptoms but the ear canal is still gunked up.

Good luck!

<vent>
LO is 14 months. Today is the 4th confirmed ear infection (the first one he ever had was in end of January).

He just finished his antibiotics last Thursday. Since his ear infection has been recurring, doctor wanted us to check back today to make sure it is completely cleared. And guess what. It is not.

So we will see an ENT specialist in 2 weeks. Our ped said chances are, they would probably have us wait until summer and see if it clears up itself before suggesting to put tubes in.

In the meantime, of course, more antibiotics.

I really hate to put tubes in, and my husband's coworkers had said if they suggested tubes, just say no, as kids will eventually outgrow it. But then why are we even going to see the ENT? Do we continue to keep taking antibiotics nonstop?

Sigh.

Please God. I just want it to go away.
