My sister did babylistregistry.com. It was great that you could compile a list of items from different websites. There were also the ability to add some non traditional requests like asking for home cooked meals and gently used baby items (like books & clothes).

I did Buy Buy Baby and Amazon and ultimately, no one really used my Amazon one. (Mostly because it wasn't included on my shower invite by accident)

I had a good experience with both. I liked the BBB had tons of 20% off coupons (including bed bath and beyond) and liked using the amazon completion discount after the baby was born to get every thing I didn't get. You can add additional stuff to your registry right up until you use the discount, which was great.

@MrsBananaGrabber: I normally don't suggests this, but is there a Walmart near you/your family? I don't like shopping there unless I have to, but registering there for my wedding was fairly painless and they do generally have a decent baby section.

So we started registries on Target and Amazon (set to private- just to save items we like and make our decisions, then we'll set them to public a few weeks before the shower.) I HATE Target's website! I can't seriously browse their website for more than 5 minutes without getting some kind of error message! I've tried various browsers and devices and the same problems keep happening. Target is a huge, successful company- why can't they have a website that works?!?

I'm seriously considering deleting the Target registry, because I know it's going to continue to drive me crazy. The problem is that I don't know of a good alternative around us. Babies R Us only has a few locations in our state, and most of those locations aren't in very nice areas, and most of our friends and family aren't anywhere near them. Buy Buy Baby has even less.

Amazon has been great so far, but most of our friends and family will prefer a physical store.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Yeah, I think with my audience in-store is the safest way to go, but that doesn't leave a lot of options. There isn't a Babies R Us around my mom's house, which is the area where a lot of the guests live, nor is the a Buy Buy Baby anywhere around there or around us. For in-store, Target may be our only option.

I am doing Buy Buy Baby and Amazon. I am finding that my amazon registry is a little harder than I thought because I found most the stuff I needed at BBB and contemplating if I should keep the Amazon one or not.

BRU, BBB, and a local store called the Fab Baby Store. They're all online, although only BRU is local (1 1/2 hrs away) to my family. I'm not having a baby shower (long story, and still a sore point for me), and I only registered, after being asked to, so that friends and family could pick out Christmas gifts we needed. In the end, no one used the registry, and we ended up getting stuff we didn't need or want - from the people who asked us if we had a registry! So frustrating. So be prepared.

I'll keep it up, but only as a method for planning what we need, and so we can use the completion discounts.

@MrsBananaGrabber: consider your audience... My local target has a small baby section within items stock and options, so registering there never crossed my mind. We registered at BRU and amazon, and I got maybe 3 gifts from amazon and just about everything off my BRU list. My older guests definitely preferred in-store shopping while my younger guests bought from amazon.

I did Amazon and buy buy baby. Bbb was so easy with returns, but it's annoying because it's hard to use the coupons online. So I split the list and hoped people who wanted to order online would do Amazon and others would use coupons at bbb.

I did Target and Babies R Us for physical stores. I only registered at Target because it was local for a lot of my family. I had tons of issues trying to update/view the registry, and also ran into the out of stock issues others mentioned. Also found out from family/friends that when they tried to look up my registry in the store there were issues.
On the plus side, Target sent me multiple 15% off completion coupons, and they also had better pricing on some items.

No issues with Babies R Us, and we ended up getting some of the bigger items from them (crib, glider, stroller). They only have a one time use 10% off coupon though.

I also set up an Amazon registry for our moms and ourselves to purchase additional baby stuff we weren't gifted. The completion discount for me was 10% regularly, and 15% if you signed up for Amazon Mom/Prime.

Before we were really "registered" I tried out MyRegistry and Baby List, but used them more to bookmark baby items I'd read good reviews on. I never actually used either site as a registry.

@youboots: The user end is what I'm concerned about. Most of our friends and family are likely to ignore an online registry altogether, and those who do bother looking at it certainly aren't going to do any extra work to use it, like going back and checking off items they've purchased, or figuring out how it works if it's even slightly confusing. Of course, even with an easy to use registry, even if they are in the physical store and are holding our registry list in their hands, I have a feeling a lot of our guests are just going to buy what they want to buy (especially baby clothes) instead of what's on our registry.

@MrsBananaGrabber: it was fine as far as I can remember. It did seem like a little more maintenance as what was in store changed but I didn't have problems with the website except for one day when it seemed like all their registry stuff was down. When updating from home, you can choose to only show options available in store, which helped make things go more quickly.

I did babies r us and target. With bru there were issues with stuff not being taking off the registry when purchased. With target there were times I couldn't sign in online. And both had issues with items going in and out of stock. But even so I'd probably use them again since I think only 1 person bought things online.

We did Target and Amazon for similar reasons to the above. Some people on our invite list will only shop in actual stores, but I was pleasantly surprised how many people went the amazon route. I would have been tempted to do BBB too but we did not have one close to us at the time I was due, although we do now.

Ultimately I opted not to do baby list or my registry because I think it can be confusing for people who are not tech savvy. I'm comfortable online, my cousin had one for his wedding and I did not care much for it from the user end.

I opted for an online registry at Amazon you can make it private until you announce. They also have a universal option so I added a few things from other stores.

I also registered at Target so people who were buying last minute or don't internet shop had an option. I reccomend registering in person if you opt for Target, that way what you choose you know is being stocked in your area.

BBB or BRU depending on what's closer? I went with BBB and it was fine; esp since you can use 20% coupons.

I did Target bc I go to Target all the time. They give 15% completion and I have another 5% from my red card. Their online registry sucks tho! Very buggy.

I did Target and had an Amazon list, my family/DH's family isn't the most tech savy (yes Amazon to them is tech) so I needed to have a physical store like Target they could go into and purchase gifts. I put stuff on Amazon that they didn't have at Target. I also did a local boutique that had more specialty items, it wasn't much but it was nice to give the aunts another physical location to go too.

Similar concept as myregistry.com is BabyList, which can be found at http://www.babylistregistry.com. You can add gifts from anywhere including Etsy. If you create a brick & mortar store registry you can add the link in your babylist registry or have them import the items for you. When people want to buy you something off BabyList they mark it as reserved and then an email prompts them to buy it & mark it purchased.

We did baby list which is similar to my registry. It seems to work better for people shopping online, it shows links to places that carry the product online (unless you indicate you only want it purchased from a specific retailer). They click on it and then are prompted to reserve the item. It worked well for us but we only used it for a handful of things. I really liked that it showed my Amazon and babies r us registries at the top though. It meant I could direct people to one place and they had all of the info right there. I could also write notes saying that we wanted bath toys but pick whatever looks fun, we could use lots of books, I love frilly hair bows etc. I wrote one saying I had lots of hand me down clothes but our poor baby was going to be sock less and I think we got enough socks to last until the apocalypse.

In terms of a full registry though, I liked Amazon but the completion discount is only good on their products.

I also registered at Babies R Us which wasn't my first choice, mainly because their customer service at my stores is lacking, but I did like the ability to add things as purchased on my registry since it made it easier to return random stuff. I think it might be a weird glitch but it was helpful.

When I registered for my first I used target for a brick & mortar and Amazon for an online. I found target to have better pricing than Babies R Us. From my wedding I knew that a lot of people bought online so I was comfortable putting the bulk of my items on Amazon.

Amazon gives you a 20% completion discount if you also have a Amazon mom account (free). If not then just 15%. Can't remember what the target discount is. Note the Amazon discount only works on items by Amazon. And in certain categories like baby, toys, health and personal care, etc. There's a more comprehensive list online.

A tip is to change your EDD after your shower so they Email your discount faster. :)

I used myregistry for my wedding and was happy with it. People do have to manually go on there and Mark as purchased. It made sense for my wedding because I had items from multiple online stores. But really with Amazon you can install a toolbar button and add items from other sites onto your Amazon registry.

@MrsBananaGrabber: Good question - I think people have to go on there to mark something has been purchased. I also believe if you make a registry at an actual store, you can connect it to myregistry which would then auto-update
