Thank you for everyone's suggestions!

@My Only Sunshine: @regberadaisy: Thank you so much for reminding me about the crock pot! I don't use it much anymore but I think I can actually make pasta with it and boiled eggs!! And maybe make some veggies too. I do worry about ventilation as now I am thinking of setting camp on the 2nd floor guest bedroom. Definitely not want to make the entire place greasy, or potentially burn down the house... What is a crockpot liner?

The reason why I didn't really want to cook is because of the leftovers in the pot (you know, the residue in the pot of water that you use to boil things in, or the pot after you make a simple stir fry). I would no longer have a kitchen sink and I definitely not want to clog up my bathroom sink. I guess I could pour things into the toilet maybe...

@Mrs. Jump Rope: No we don't have a basement.. I wish we do!

@mrs. wagon: @yoursilverlining: Thanks.... I will learn to use the grill... just that my husband makes it look so complicated. And didn't you have to wash the grill afterwards? Sorry I really have no clue :) So intimidating!

We had no kitchen in our home for the first 2 ish months! I used a tabletop propane stove (think hot pot), rice cooker, and crock pot. You make do. :)
I washed dishes in the bathroom sink or tub. :)

@irene: Another suggestion - use your crockpot (or get one for pretty cheap at Target/Walmart/etc.). If you use a crockpot liner, you won't even have dirty dishes. There are plenty of "dump it in the crockpot" recipes that don't require any pre-cooking. Pinterest is a gold mine for those. Some things that come to mind are BBQ chicken, chicken enchilada soup, and beef stew.

We went through something similar when I was growing up (I think it was about 8-10 weeks total – what a pain!).

You’ll definitely want to make sure your fridge is hooked up (in some other room, or garage even), but with a grill, microwave and toaster you can make quite a lot.

You can boil water on a grill, especially if you use small saucepans and just boil enough for a couple of servings. Pasta doesn’t need that much water to cook. You can easily boil eggs, cook rice, etc all on a grill. You can also make scrambled eggs on a grill, just use low heat so they don’t get overcooked. You can make pizza on a grill (it’s really good done this way!)

Just grill your veggies or steam them in the microwave (fair selection of frozen steamer veggies are available), hamburger (I’d also branch out and do stuff like chicken burgers, salmon or other fish burgers, etc.)

You can also grill when it’s raining. We grill all winter long, and our grill is on an uncovered deck and we live in Maine! :silly:

Ideas:
•	Freezer meals that you can microwave
•	Heat up soup on the grill
•	Heat up any canned food on the grill
•	Baked potatoes
•	Salads with grilled meats and veggies

We just went through this last summer. We moved the table and chairs into the playroom and had one tall bookshelf as our "pantry" and the microwave. We hooked our refrigerator up in the hallway. We used paper plates and cups as much as possible and for the items we needed, like sippy cups and lunch containers, we washed in the bathroom sink.

I would say learn how you use your grill (it's super easy once you know how to turn it on... plus you can absolutely grill in the rain or snow, we do it all the time!) and you can do very quick things like burgers or hot dogs any time. We did a lot of chicken nuggets and fish sticks in the microwave. And of course, a lot of takeout. Oh! Rice cooker for rice every night for sure.

My parents came over and insisted on cooking (bulgogi) so they brought one of those little camping stoves and it worked great!! We had to clean the pan outside with the hose though because it wouldn't fit under the bathroom sink faucet :P

@Mamaof2: No I don't..!

@MamaCate: My problem is, the entire kitchen will be gutted, all the electricity outlets will be gone at demolition, so we do not have a stove to hook back up to.... I probably can't even make pasta or even boil an egg because I won't have a stove. I could make cheese sandwich because I still have a toaster oven.... Don't know what to do with veggies though other than salad... it will be painful to be eating out for 10 weeks...

There is a stove at the grill, I just need to figure out how to use it without burning down the house. So maybe some days I could make pasta.

My thoughts now are, I could get take out from whole foods, and the pasta place that is close by the daycare center. But I can only do so many times at those places, and I wonder if we should just eat there instead of going home to the "construction site".

This is a long time ago, but when my parents redid their kitchen the contractors were able to re-hook-up the stove every day when they were done with the exception of a few days. So out of a 4 week project, i think they only lost the stove for a couple days. We did eat out those days and fairly regularly due to the mess. The first time they redid the kitchen we had no appliances for weeks, so it depends on the contractors. I would ask and see how they can accommodate you.

Then, i would focus on quick, easy things. Grilled cheese, pb&j, mac & cheese. My LO likes tortellini with parm cheese--super easy and i like it with sauce. Plus lots of fruit and veggies that you can eat from the fridge to feel healthier if you can.

So we will begin a major kitchen / first floor remodeling starting next week. We are gutting out the entire first floor, all the hardwood floors will come out, kitchen will be gone, a wall is coming down, entrance being restructured a bit, fireplace being moved...etc. It will last 10-12 weeks.... or more if we were unlucky.

My LO is 3.5 years old. I usually just make him dinner every day. However, with this remodeling, I think we can only keep our microwave and toaster oven functional. We just recently bought a grill to put outside on the patio and I don't know how to operate it, and it dictates by weather. In fact, I don't even know where to set up our temporary "eating" area. We can do cereal, yogurt and fruits for breakfast, we are ordering lunch for him at school during the remodeling so that's fine, but I need ideas for dinner.

For those who had experience remodeling your kitchen while your LO is/was young, what did you do about dinner? Love to hear your thoughts!
