@mrsmbeegee: I'm currently pregnant! It took us 6 cycles to get pregnant. It was definitely longer than the first time. I went to a naturopath and took vitex and a few other herbs for a few months. Did acupuncture the cycle before and the cycle I got pregnant. Who knows why it took so long but it was super frustrating at the time.

I was confused about it too and did a lot of Googling. I checked my chart and I had some spotting 2.5 weeks later but no real period until 6 weeks. I had it removed end of March so I've had 4 cycles since then.

It's taking me longer to get pregnant this time, but hopefully it's not a result of the IUD... Who knows, though. I temped and used OPKs last month and it seems that I'm ovulating, so hopefully I'm back to normal.

So I have no tips on the hormone balancing, but if it helps I didn't get a real period until 6 weeks after my IUD removal (Mirena). My cycle has been pretty regular since then and only varies by a day or so.

I got my IUD removed in early july, I spotted for two days about two days after removal and since then nothing. I had all the symptoms of ovulation, and then two weeks later felt nauseous, bloated, exhausted etc, but BFN. I'm now 5 weeks from my removal and no sign of a period yet. I'm going to a naturopath tomorrow to discuss hormone balancing and perhaps acupuncture to things regulated, but was wondering if anyone else had either herbs, acupuncture or anything else to help get your body back to normal? I want to TTC asap so i'm eager to get things back.

Maybe ask a dentist about it if you're really concerned about his teeth? But I don't think you should take it from him. I had a blankie and sucked my thumb at night till I was 6 or 7 and never needed braces. DH never did anything like that, and he did need them. I'm skeptical as to how big of a correlation there really is there.

@hilsy85: It is not a corner, it is half the blanket! hahahahaha! And he doesn't use a pillow yet..... I have just emailed the pediatrician.

@JerricaBenton: @mrs. wagon: Thanks... I will try... except there is already 6 stuffed animals and 2 silk blankies on his bed. He makes sure all his stuffed animals are in his crib when he goes to sleep and he doesn't quite care about those 2 nicer blankies. If I give him more objects his crib will be filled with stuff. hahaha.

I would not take it away at his age...if you're concerned about his teeth/oral development, I would speak to his dentist and your pedi to see their take on it, but I doubt that sucking on the corner of a blanket is going to cause long term damage.

It seems cruel to just take it away cold turkey--my LO also has a lovey that he LOVES and it breaks my hear to think about him crying for it and not being able to have it at night.

Maybe can you stitch it to his pillowcase so he can feel it against his cheek but can't put it in his mouth?

I think that a compromise might be a good idea-- he is old enough now to understand certain things, so maybe you can replace it with something. For a few days keep mentioning to him that blankie is for babies, and he's a big boy now. He will probably protest but you can keep mentioning it to really get it ingrained in his brain. Then start mentioning that if he's a big boy, he can choose a new toy for bedtime to replace his blankie. The more excited he gets about it, the better. Then when the big day comes, you can bring the blankie, let him choose his new toy (stuffed animal? or even a bigger, nice blanket) and physically show him, this is for the big boy! blankie is for babies. He will probably regress several times but with a slow transition he might not be as sad about it.

My son sucked his first two fingers (index and middle) every time he fell asleep, every single time until right around age 2 he just suddenly dropped it on his own. One day we just said "has he been sucking his fingers or not??" then we realized he had stopped. Mind you, he did this every day and at age almost 4 now all his teeth are in and they're perfectly straight. And these are baby teeth, too. I'm of the camp of "don't worry about it until it's actually a problem" (like if the dentist tells you that he needs to stop).

That would be my suggestion!!

@irene: maybe you can redirect it though. Have it all clean and dry and rub it on his cheeks. Say stuff like, doesn't this feel soft when it's dry? Depending on how far you want to go you can say it will get torn or ruined if he keeps putting it in his mouth and he'll have it forever if he doesn't do that anymore. Maybe a little harsh but less traumatic than taking it away I think.

Admittedly biased as I still keep my baby blanket under my pillow lol, but add me to the 'let him keep it' list. I do understand the concern about stuffing it in his mouth. It seems like he adjusted well to just using it for sleep time, so maybe you can work with him to not to that. Encourage him to rub it on his face or mouth or lay his head on it.

I would be concerned about stuffing a lot of it in his mouth, honestly. If he just slept next to it, fine, but I would not be okay with stuffing a burp cloth in his mouth. Not for his teeth, but for oral motor development.

Take this with a grain of salt, my son is almost 3 and uses a pacifier for night sleep.

@BabyBoecksMom: My mom said I had a similar blankie which she took away when I was around 20 months (LO's age). I was a thumb sucker too and she corrected that around the same time by putting some ointment on my thumb. Maybe that affected my development!! I should go tell her now that if it wasn't her who removed my blankie at 20 months, I would have become the 2nd Steve Jobs !! :)

Thanks guys.... ahhh .... maybe I should take a picture and show you how he sucks on the towel and thus our concern! His mouth becomes a big "O" (filled with the blankie) every night when he goes to sleep. Sometimes it does fall off but if it doesn't, that's 12 hours of "O" hahahahaha!!!!

My in-laws, husband, my mom and me are all concerned. Daycare teacher has once said if he isn't asking for it then don't give it to him (that was 15-ish months). Maybe I should email our pediatrician and ask his opinion about it.

My husband's younger brother had the worst case of protruded teeth. It is not just the teeth coming out, it is the bone structure of his mouth. I saw him before his braces and I wondered if he could really close his mouth... it sounds mean but it was very bad. He did braces, it did help a bit, but it still doesn't look "pretty" (not sure what word to use to describe). I asked my MIL and he didn't do what my LO did though.... but seeing that "example" makes me extremely nervous that will affect the structure of his teeth/mouth.

For now I'll still give blankie to him (due to all the "no" votes haha)... I guess.

Many kids need braces anyway. I didn't suck my thumb and I still required braces as a teenager. I wouldn't worry about that in terms of a reason why or when you should take the lovey away. Maybe you can gently tell him that it can't go in his mouth anymore and let him still sleep with the cloth?

Also, I should add that I might be biased. I had a blankie growing up and loved it, lost it during a move in 6th grade. Bought a furry/silky throw blanket before I left for college intending to have it on a futon and it has basically become an adult blankie. I wrap it up under my arm every night! DH still loves me, and actually steals it any chance he gets. LO loves it as well.

I think pacifiers are one thing, a security blanket or lovey is another. Pacis I do think need to be taken away at some stage but I see no reason why a child should have to part with their security blanket before they're ready. I sincerely doubt the blanket is going to wreak significant havoc on his teeth (and if he resorts to thumb sucking in place of his blanket, that is known for sure to cause over bites so the blanket is definitely the better option) and really, I just don't see anything wrong with him sleeping with his blanket forever if he wants.

LO has a monkey lovey and I have no plans to take that away, ever really. Kids sometimes need something to help soothe themselves to sleep and comfort them, why take that away? :-)

We just took away DD's paci, but we're keeping the blankie as lo g as she wants it because it's her security item. When I talked to our pediatrician about her paci (because of her teeth) he said age 4 is the latest you need to get rid of the paci and that most dentists will tell you that orthodontics are cheaper than a lifetime of therapy LOL!

Have you talked to a dentist to see if his teeth will have problems? If he's only using it to fall asleep, but it falls out afterwards, then I would think that's fine... Especially at this young age.
