@swurlygurl: I'm with you - I totally would!

My dad used to sit me on his lap every time he mowed the lawn. I never wore ear muffs and our yard was a huge hill. I survived & I loved it! :)

Well geez, now I feel like a bad mom for saying I totally would! Haha. If the circumstances were right, of course. I wouldn't in our yard, because our yard is so slope-y that DH practically tips the lawn mower every time he mows. Also, if there is any chance there would be rocks in the grass, then probably not. A huge yard that took an hour to mow would probably not be ideal, because even with ear muffs that's a lot of time to be close to that loud noise.
Besides all those though, with adequate protection, I think it could even be fun :)

@Lindsay05: I would ESPECIALLY not in a frame-pack like that. Because baby is pulled away from your body (unlike other carriers) it actually completely changes your center of gravity and I really don't think that would be safe for a rider mower. Not only the fear of debris flying up, but also of the mower tipping.

Nope, I know lawn mowers have more safety features then before (though I'm not sure how old yours is) but I know several adults who have had very serious accidents while riding them so there's no way I'd carry a baby on it while the blade is going.

I wouldn't...to me it's just not worth the risk. I would just try to mow during nap time. My LO actually seems to sleep well when my husband mows... I think she likes the white noise of the mower!

I think I would put a helmet and bubble wrap around them if I tried it, lol. I grew up on a farm when I was really young and sometimes you just have to have them ride along to get the job done.

My really concern is if you have any kind of slope. In that case I would not do it. I know people personally that have been injured and killed on lawn mowers that tipped so I would not take LO on if that is the case.

I would not. I can't tell if you mean a backpack type carrier, or a real back pack like you would put books in, but even if you mean a carrier, it just seems to risky to me. Then again, I have actually never mowed a lawn in my life so lawn mowers seem really dangerous to me! So... my view is skewed by that.

First, I'm sorry but I laughed just a little (mainly at the cuteness of a baby in a backpack). lol
Second, I don't think I would... I would want to use some kind of wrap or carrier to know she wasn't going to jump/fall out! I've seen moms use sheets even so I bet you could find a tutorial on how to wrap one so she'd be secure (if you don't have a carrier).

ETA: Kids ride on lawn mowers with their parents all the time so I don't think her being on it is inherently a bad idea, just need a better carrier. ;)

Yeah I'm fine with it. In laws are farmers so a riding mower would be about the smallest piece of equipment she'd be around - bring on the 'real' stuff!

I mowed my parents lawn when I was 8 and up, on a rider. Those safety labels are there for a reason so obviously you need to use common sense. But they're also there to cover the company's a$$ in case of an accident.

I'd just say be careful not to drop the kid or go over steep hills where the mower could tip. And don't let them mow alone until they demonstrate the knowledge and responsibility to do so.
