I had a rocking chair when I was little. My parents have it at their house for LO and she LOVES it. She climbs up in it and "rocks". Its adorable. So far, she hasn't tried to stand on the chair.

We have one. It took a couple of weekends for her to learn she doesn't stand on it, she is to sit on her bottom on it. She doesn't stand on it anymore but she does get a glint in her eye when she goes to sit on it sometimes, as if she wants to stand on it.

We just watch her closely.

I found a really cute children's rocking chair at a consignment shop for $8 yesterday. I hesitate in getting it because... well, toddlers and rocking chairs?! That sounds like a safety hazard. I can already picture LO standing on the rocking chair and falling on his head. What do you think? Is this a recipe for disaster? If your LO has a rocking chair do they like it?

We got a rocker-recliner from Best Chairs -- I can't remember the style name offhand but it's part of the Storytime series. It's super comfy and it swivels and reclines almost flat, like a PP mentioned. I won't know how it feels with a baby for a few more months, though!

i sat in a bunch at BBB and fell in love with the irvington from best chairs. it was huge, comfy, and reclined to almost laying flat. there were lots of fabric options too so you could get something that would go elsewhere in your house after being used as a nursery chair.

do you have a price point you want to stay around? there's such a range in prices on gliders, from $150-$1,500!

I have a glider and a nursing stool. this might just be me, but I can't have my knees locked - so a gliding ottoman was pointless. I like to push my legs against the nursing stool to rock :)

I have the storkcraft glider (w/o the ottoman) that Mrs. Bee linked...two of them actually....and a medela nursing stool. Worked perfect and got all three things for under $230, including shipping! I actually really like the flexibility of the nursing stool instead since you can use it on the couch, etc too.

@mediagirl: @shopaholic: I also love the ROCKED vs. rooooooocked. Haha. It makes me think of all the songs that would be playing in the background if this were a movie:

"We Will Rock You"
"I Wanna Rock n Roll All Night"

and definitely my favorite:
"I Wanna Rock (ROCK!)"

For some reason they are all hair band songs. :)

I do this a lot. When LMW wakes up at night and we see her little eyes open on the monitor I always sing Katy Perry's song... 'I'm Wide Awake..."

@shopaholic: yes, we also got an incredible Babi Italia crib from them, as well as the crib mattress and a changing table / dresser combo. Basically baby room #2. They saved us soooo much money!! Their kids are 7 and 5 so they just wanted it all OUT of the house asap!

I hardly EVER use my ottoman. I like the glider for the room but could have just used our lazyboy. I would use a $10 foot stool over the ottoman if it wasn't included with the chair we got (for less than you're going to spend on the ottoman!!!) Don't do it. It's not worth it. I have a child who likes frantic movements rather than smooth movements, too so that probably is a reason I don't use it much. She likes to be ROCKED, not roooooocked. :)

@shopaholic: that Dutalier glider is the hand-me-down we got. It's almost 10 years old and I believe has been reupholstered once (at least the ottoman has) and even though it's not as pretty as my custom fully upholstered glider, it's more comfortable!

@Mrs. Bee: Thanks for your input! I'm sure the Stork works wonderfully, and DH would be happier with the price, but I'm kind of ridiculous and wanted a non-wood "furniture" looking glider. :/
@T-Mom: I told DH your DH thought it was necessary! :) More guy consensus!

@littlecasita1122: @mrs. wagon: @MungBean: Thanks for your input ladies! I will have to test the getting up part in store! Unfortunately we don't have a Buy Buy Baby here and BRU has only a small selection I didn't really gravitate towards any of them. I went to this nice boutique, Bel Bambini, and they had WONDERFUL Duatailier chairs but DH was floored by the prices! My favorite one had a pull thing that makes the chair stable before you stood up, but it was over $1K for the glider alone. :/

@littlecasita1122: I LOVE storage ottomans!! We have a huge upholstered storage bench in Wagon Jr.'s room that will eventually hold his toys and stuffed animals (it used to hold our extra linens and pillows at the foot of our bed) and we have a storage ottoman in our living room that we use for all of our chargers, remotes, etc. I love storage that is pretty and useful for something else as well.

We have an ottoman that I had bought a few years ago at Kohl's - it's just a small, stuffed one that opens at the top for storage. I decided to use that in the nursery instead of getting the matching one, and I'm glad we didn't waste the money. I think we used it more in the early weeks when LO was sleeping on our chests a lot, but now we hardly use it.

I also second making sure your glider is one you can get out of without assistance! I tried out every glider at Babies R Us to make sure I could get up without using the arms to prop me out.
