@greenebee: I ran my whole last pregnancy and I never used any special equipment or even special clothes. I just used DH's shirts, and let my shorts and pants be low rise pants. I didn't use any support belts or anything. But boy did I get slower! My final 3 mile run at 39w and some days was at my prepreg walking speed. Yikes. I went from an 8 min mile to a 20 minute mile, I bet it was funny to watch.

This time I bought maternity work out pants but am not running at all. No help there.

ETA: j/k I ran a half marathon at 8 or 10 weeks (that I had trained for!) and puked at mile 9, and then ran/walked the rest and swore off running pretty much after that and switched to other workouts. I'll pick it back up after the baby comes, I hope.

I ran my whole pregnancy. I even went into labor while out running 3 miles. I bought the Gabrialla support belt ( friend had suggested it), but since I was always small, I never wore it. Just listen to your body, and stay hydrated!

@greenebee: I didn't run throughout my entire pregnancy, just until I didn't want to anymore but continued to exercise 3x a week for 60 minutes. I'm a fitness instructor and stopped teaching at 34 weeks ( can't believe i even made it that long!!)
I modified my exercise around 20+weeks so for example my step class, i changed it to a Circuit training class so I wasnt bouncing around for an hour. I know many women run their entire pregnancy but I didn't want to and it was winter. As long as you were running and exercising before you got pregnant, you can certainly continue the exercise and level of intensity as long as you feel comfortable with it. Just listen to your body, it will tell you ;) congrats and hope you have a happy & healthy pregnancy!!

I run a lot outside of my pregnancies. When pregnant both times, I ran as long as it was comfortable for me. Everyone is so different -- I know some who run pretty fast the whole time, others who can't run much at all. I made it about half-way each time before it just wasn't comfortable/fun anymore between weird weight distribution, having to pee all the time, etc. At that point, I switched to doing the elliptical and hiking.

Good luck!

I ran to about 34 weeks with this pregnancy. For me, the most important thing was to listen to my body as far as pace/walking breaks. I had a StorkSport belt (not sure if they are widely available, my dad works in medical equipment sales and hooked me up) and that helped a big in the last month or so of running. But by 34 weeks the weight of the belly was just too much even with the belt and I switched to only walking.

I have done a 5k and a 10k so far and my next race is a half-marathon. I'm not doing anything that looks remotely like training, but I'm run-walking the whole thing. It's quite dark in the mornings and I don't feel comfortable running even with a headlamp. I'm 13 weeks.

Hey fellow mama-bees!

(I haven't posted in quite some time 😬) I am excited to be pregs with LO #2 due in October! During my first pregnancy, I wasn't (read:literally not at all) active, but after DS was born I began running as my primary exercise routine and have loved it ever since.

Down to it: I'm only 10 weeks, 4 days, so not showing just yet, but I'm wondering if any of you ran through your pregnancies and if you have any tips/things you wish someone had told you and finally what belly-support bands you might recommend for the inevitable pop of the belly!

Thanks so much in advance!

(Good to be back😊)

I kept running until about 6 months pregnant. I wasn't training for a race and certainly not a marathon. But when I told my midwife I slowed my pace because I was pregnant she said "why?'" I was told as long as I did it before being pregnant I was fine unless I was feeling uncomfortable. Good luck on your marathon!

Wow congrats!!! I actually trained and ran a half marathon at 6 months. I had to adjust to a walk/run method due to my belly but add extra nutrition for energy upkeep just in case. I had to eat more gels, jelly beans and honey waffles than usual during my race

I am a runner and found that my only obstacle in the beginning was my mind! I would ask myself, Am I out of breath? Am I pushing too hard? I was just nervous about it all because this is my first pregnancy. I realize now that I was fine! I'm now 25 and a half weeks and can still run. I am much slower and feel constant urges to stop and use the bathroom but it is more just urges because the baby is getting bigger and pushing on my bladder! I am running a race this weekend! (Only an 8k!) Good Luck in the marathon!

@jstalter: good to hear that you still have your energy up! Exercise during pregnancy is so beneficial and something I truly wish I'd done more of during mine! I definitely agree that maintaining the same level you had prior to pregnancy is the best advice. Get it girl!

@trailrunner thank you for our input!! I got ahold of my OB this morning and she gave me the go-ahead! She said I can maintain the leek of exercise I was doing before getting pregnant. She did tell me to frequently check my breathing by making sure I would be able to carry out a conversation. I ran 3 miles today and felt great! So much more energy this evening. I actually stayed awake past 6:30 PM!! ;P

I just talked to my ob about running the other day bc I just started back (too sick to run during first trimester). She basically said just do as you were doing before pregnancy until it becomes too uncomfortable. Obviously stay well hydrated and listen to your body. I also asked about maintaining a certain heart rate and she said the studies about heart rate during exercise in pregnancy are outdated (I think that's what she said) and she doesn't follow them. I would def ask your own doctor though for their advice. Good luck!

I have my first marathon in two weeks and recently found out the I am pregnant!!!! :) :) :) As of today, I am 4 weeks pregnant! I'm finding conflicting material regarding the safety of my unborn baby. I have been training for the marathon for the past 6 months and ran 17 miles at a slower pace this last Saturday before confirming my wonderful news of my pregnancy! Am I safe to run the marathon at a slow pace, stopping to hydrate, and pausing to fuel with gels (not containing caffeine)? Or, do I need to sit this one out and try again another year?

I have the revolution and I'm 5'1. It's a little high and my shoulders do ache after longer runs, but not enough to deter me - I just switch arms a lot. I think if you will be doing longer, more frequent training runs it may be worth it to have the adjustable handlebar so you maintain good form.

Now that it is finally warm out, I'm interested in getting a Bob Revolution stroller for running with my ten-month old. However, I am concerned the handlebar is too high. I know the new Revolution Flex stroller offers an adjustable handlebar, but I can't find any used ones (probably because it is so new).

Have any other shorties like me (5'2") run with the Bob Revolution? Does the handlebar seem too high? TIA!
