@.twist.: Oh no! DH also had to have part of his intestine removed, and like you said I don't think it will cure him. I think it just buys him some time.

@artbee: I really hope they do too. Your husbands situation is not really ideal! Although, better than the alternative, I guess.

I know that, with my friend, even having part of her intestines removed did not keep it away. :( I'm not quite sure the name of it, but the part of the intestines they removed was unfortunately the part of your intestines that absorbs the most nutrients for your body. So, not only is she missing that but it didn't really cure her either.

@.twist.: Yay, we appreciate it! I don't have a good feeling that the disease will stay away, and it's especially scary because colon cancer runs in his family and an inflamed colon gives you such a huge risk of that. I'm hoping they come up with more/better meds so he doesn't have to go through more surgery and have a colostomy the rest of his life.

this would have been my 6th year riding in the MS: City to Shore a 75 mile bike ride from Philadelphia/Cherry Hill to Ocean City NJ. The only reason i'm not doing it is because my due date is 10 days after the ride, but i'm hoping to still be able to volunteer.

@.twist.: Awesome! My DH has crohns, he had to get a colostomy for awhile but he's had it reversed.

I've done a few walks. I'd like to be able to do more, but they're always so early in the morning and LO wakes up late.

@deerylou: That is cool that your company does a group thing! I wish our company did something like this. I'm even kinda scared to ask co-workers for donations for my walk for Crohn's & Colitis... :/

@littlek: What does the March of Dimes research? I've never heard of it before.

I just signed up (for the second year, not consecutively) for the Gutsy Walk for Crohn's & Colitis.

I know a few people with gut issues although one in particular has a seriously bad case. She's had surgery to remove a portion of her intestines and she recently delivered a little boy pre-term because her Crohn's flared up in a bad way. She was in a special Crohn's study for pregnant women with Crohn's or Colitis. She occasionally invites me to join her team for these walks and I always love joining and supporting her cause.

It's really the only "walk" I do, but I do donate to other causes too.

Do you walk/run/bike/fly for any causes close to your heart? What are they!?
