I took it with my son, but don't remember exactly when. It did come back with insufficient data & I needed to repeat it, but I was on vacation, so it was like 2 weeks after the initial test.

@LAZB: Yes no harm in waiting! I took it at ten weeks because I was there anyway for an appointment. I had to wait maybe another two
Weeks after getting the initial call that it was a boy for results that all was fine.

I never did it, but my friend did it on the early side, even though she told her doctor she wasn’t sure about her dates and had a long cycle (so it was really probably earlier than they said). Came back inconclusive and caused a lot of stress only to be normal later. She’s definitely not obese. (Fittest person I know).

I opted for earlier - think I was 10w3d. I think it depends what you plan to do with the results. If god forbid they come back concerning (which happened to me), earlier gives you more time to make decisions, which you could need depending where you are. If positive results wouldn't change your plans at all, then I'd say go either way. But I have a VERY skewed experience, but every day was important in keeping options open in our situation. Sorry to be a buzz kill. :/

@LAZB: 🤣 that's funny
What I don't get is panorama advertises that you can get it at 9 weeks which seems pretty crazy. I would think 11w would prob be fine if you were super anxious. I had to harrass the Dr for results, they took like 13 days.

@LAZB: I did! Ten weeks on the nose and it came back insufficient data. They were able to tell me the sex but I had to go back for a second blood draw to confirm all was fine. Interesting that you mention the weight. My doctor didn’t mention to me that there’s any correlation but I definitely need to lose a good 20 pounds (and did then as well)!

I totally understand your hesitation - I think I'd still do it at the earlier time just because I'm so anxious in early pregnancy. If you think you're capable of waiting another week though, I think the chances of having definite results just gets better the longer you wait.

I don’t remember when I took it with my other kids, but I want to say close to 12 weeks. This time I’m tempted to take it earlier, and you are supposed to be able to start taking it at 10 weeks, but I’m afraid if I do they may not get sufficient dna.
I have a friend that had that issue, although she is technically obese (although I wouldn’t call her that, but by BMI she qualifies).
Anyway, would you take it at 10w3d or wait until 11w2d?

Question for those who have done NIPT... when precisely did you take the test? I was told you can do it at 10 weeks, but since gestation dates aren't always 100% accurate, is it a good idea to wait a bit longer past the 10-week mark? If it's too early, can the results be tainted?

I think a lot of it depends on your history, you know?

With DD, it was before the NIPT became available in Australia, so I did the NT/combined bloods. She came back high risk and I spent the rest of that pregnancy terrified (because I refused an amnio due to m/c risk) - but she was fine.

Then we lost our second baby, and genetic testing showed T21 - so any pregnancies that made it after that, we automatically qualified for NIPT. We lost the next two afterwards again (too early for a 'reason' but highly likely due to dodgy embryos/chromosome issues too).

I'm 13 weeks and awaiting NIPT results this time around. We skipped NT completely (did a 12 week ultrasound anyway though) because the NIPT results are supposedly higher accuracy anyway.

@agold: just thought I'd share my experience with genetic counselling.

After we screened positive on the IPS screening, we were immediately set up with a genetic counsellor. Then she helped us decide if we wanted to do an amnio or the NIPT. She also went over everything about Edward's Syndrome which we had received a 1/17 risk factor for. After our NIPT was positive for Turner's she walked us through the next steps (amnio or doing nothing) and helped set us up with families who had children with TS and made all our hospital appointments and ultrasounds with us. We would have been lost without her. Now that I'm in a new pregnancy, she answers any questions or concerns and is a good person just to talk to when I'm worried. She has set up my ultrasounds and NIPT. I feel like I've had awesome care.

@agold: I think that if you are not completely clear what the results mean (exactly which conditions were tested for and ruled out, etc) then you should set-up a call. The tests have a very low false negative rate, so there is a very small chance that your baby has the conditions tested for, but there are many things not tested for which could still be identifed during ultrasounds or after birth. If you know exactly what the test means for you and your baby, then you can skip it
