I had the same issue with my right hip, and I started going to the chiropractor. That worked wonders. I still go see him, and so does the rest of my family now.

I had a bit of a different hip pain and didn't feel comfortable working out while pregnant which made me sad. Mine kept progressing and I even had a large numb area over my hip flexor. The SECOND my lo was born, the pain vanished. I hope you can find some relief. You might want to look in to acupuncture too.

@Cherrybee: Its been off and on since about 14 weeks, but the last 4 weeks its been steady and REALLY painful! I notice that exercise especially exacerbates it, which makes me really sad because I thought I could exercise throughout my whole pregnancy. This may stop me in my tracks :(

@grizz: I will do! When did you start having yours? I got a burning sensation in both my hips at about 6 weeks, then it died down until 11 weeks, when I had my first butt-cheek twinge!! It was funny for the first few days - twinging when I least expected it - but the hip pain is really wearing, isn't it?

@Cherrybee: Let me know what you find out and I will do the same! I looked up pelvic girdle pain and it fits my symptoms to a T!

@grizz: This sounds exactly like the pain I'm experiencing. My provider said it was Pelvic Girdle Pain. It's in my left butt-cheek and hip, too. I'm seeing my midwife again on Friday and I'm going to ask her to refer me to a physio.... I certainly don't think I can carry on like this - driving, housework, everything seems to aggravate it! Ouch! I hope you find some relief.

@caffeinated: That belt looks like it would feel HEAVENLY. The only thing that feels good on that area right now is pressure, so I'll be ordering the belt! Thank you!

@hergreenapples: Thank you! That stretch + the lacrosse/tennis ball exercise look like they would relieve a lot of my pain. Pressure on that area is the only thing that gives me relief!

My sacrum area was KILLING me for months; a couple months of seeing a chiropractor helped. I hope it gives you relief! Nothing but heat helped in the meantime. Heat and rest.

Chiropractor adjustment is always relieving, but you have that lined up already. I find heat helps also.

A chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy is probably a good idea. I've also found prenatal massage helpful.

The three things that have given me the most relief are:

(1) Using a foam roller religiously on a daily basis to roll out the muscles and fascia,

(2) Using a lacrosse ball on my SI joints. I literally just lay flat on my back and place a lacrosse ball (a tennis ball would probably work too) up against the dimple in my lower back, then just lay flat on the ball and roll around if it feels good. It gives me a great release and huge relief,

(3) Doing pigeon pose with a bolster or foam roller supporting my pelvis (like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ881T1IPok) nightly before bed.

I used an SI belt, that may be purchased at a physiotherapist's or chiropractic office. I used this belt: http://www.serola.net/Serola-Theory/pregnancy.html and it helped a lot.

I saw a chiro but unfortunately with all the Relaxin your body is producing, it's really hard to get rid of the pain. I had a lot of back problems before getting pregnant, and the pregnancy only exacerbated it.

I hope things get better for you soon!! I hope the chiro will help!

I don't really have advice for you, but I can sympathize! I have hip dysplasia and knew pregnancy would be tough, and it was. To my disappointment I couldn't exercise or by the end even take long walks. Thankfully since I delivered in July, I spent most of my 3rd trimester in the pool. DH, my OB, and I talked at length during the pregnancy and decided that a c/s was best given the issues I could have had if I'd had to push for hours on end.

I hope your pain is temporary and that your doctors can help alleviate it!

I am 24 weeks pregnant and am having excruciating pain deep in my left hip/buttock, to the immediate left of my pelvis and backbone. It hurts when I walk, and seems aggravated the most by workouts so I reluctantly stopped this week. Now its to the point that it hurts when I even get out of bed! Anything where I flex or bend at the hips hurts. I whipped out my old anatomy books, and the point of pain seems to be the piriformis muscle, or at least around it. I don't have any of the burning and tingling sensations of sciatica. Just plain old pain. The hip feels like its grinding. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do any of you know any remedies or relief I can use until my appointment with my chiropractor? I am MISERABLE!
