A majority of her newborn stuff was sleepers (she only wore newborn for about 3 weeks). Now I dress her in sleepers at night and my favorite for during the day is a onesie and pair of cotton pants. If we're going somewhere I'll put her in something like a dress or romper. But I think onesies and pants would be perfect for daycare. I like to change her into an outfit after her morning nap so that she's not in the same thing all day (and it's also part of our routine so that she knows it's daytime).

I can only speak to the newborn stage but my summer baby has been in onesies pretty much the whole time. For you I'd guess onesies and footed sleepers will be all she wears inthe first few weeks. We were team green and got a ton of girl outfits sent to us after she was born- mostly sleepers but some "outfits" so I wouldn't buy a ton until after she's born since you may get a lot more gifts. Instead of pants on cooler days I love putting baby legs (leg warmers) on her- easier changes than pants and so cute.

Honestly, we've had LO in footed sleepers basically her entire 4 weeks of life. I guess it depends on how warm it is there, but we found sleepers were the easiest for diaper changes and avoiding her belly button stump at the beginning. We're starting to put her in outfits, but they end up being a hassle! Oh, and she was in newborn sizes until about 2.5 weeks and is now 9 lbs and in 0-3 month clothing.

@Chillybear: The first 6 weeks I literally only had her in white onesies every day. I was too tired to think about how else to dress her and she didn't own anything else. Since then it's been sundresses and summer outfits, many gifts and a lot of hand-me-downs from friends. Definitely get a BUNCH of footed sleepers, we spend some time in the mountains right when she was born and it was colder there, so we kept her in the sleepers all day.

@JoJoGirl: thanks.... What did she wear most days? since it was summer did you just have her in onesies all the time? maybe i'll just look for more footed sleepers since by november its bound to be pretty cold.

@Chillybear: I'd wait til she gets here, then go shopping. Our 4 month old is already in some 6 month clothing because she's so tall. She also didn't own a single pair of pants (and tons and tons of onesies!) until we went shopping this weekend!

ETA: Obviously it's hard to go shopping with a newborn, so maybe just get a few basics now? Long-sleeve onesies and a ton of pants?

We just had our shower this past weekend and our very generous family and friends did a great job sticking to our registry which mean we got almost everything that we really needed or wanted.

The only issue is that we didnt get very many clothes or outfits. We got plain white onesies in 5 packs of each size up to 12 months, a lot of fun, printed onesies and some t shirts and only a handful of "outfits" in various sizes. So i'm afraid my baby girl is mostly without pants.....

Experienced moms out there - How much do i still need to buy? What should i be looking for and in what sizes?

She's due in October (transitional month for us in Philly) and will start daycare in January. I'm going to guess she'll be close to 8lbs when born, but who knows for sure.

What would be appropriate day care clothes for a 3-4 month old in the winter?

Just pay attention to the name. Some say "Snug Fit" and some dont. The snug fit ones are very lean fitting and the ones that aren't are regular PJs.

I think the cotton 1-piece ones from Carter's are a bit more snug than some of the others I've bought (I can only buy cotton because of my son's ezcema). I just thought he would be uncomfortable in them because he's big and getting the next size up would have made them too long. I prefer the 1-pieces from Gap or The Children's Place.

We switched to the 2 pc ones around 7 months. Lo is 9 months in a few days and 12 months in Carters sizing. (I always take it to mean 3 months = 0-3, 6 months = 3-6, etc.) We have a couple of 18 month one piece sleepers we are hoping fit when it gets cold again... I think we'll stick with two piece for the summer and then see where we're at in the winter. My mom says my brother and I got to 2t by 1 year old, and then it slowed down a lot.

My LO is big but right now she's in 18 month sleepers from Carter's at almost 11 months old. She's about 23-24 lb and at 9 months she was 29.25 inches long. We switched her to 18 month size around 9 months though because she's so long. One of the sleepers is a little too long but the other two fit her perfectly so I'm not sure what the difference is.

There are two kinds at Carters, the ones that are the snug fit and not flame resistant and the ones that are looser fit and flame resistant. Check below the imprinted label.

My son is always ahead in the Carters pjs. He's 2.5 and we just had to go up to 4T because his feet were too big and the collar was down to his belly button (exxagerating, but you get the point).

I didn't find that they run crazy small at all. My DS is a small guy, but he is still able to fit into his 12-18 month sleepers (he is 21 months) so I would say they run TTS.

LO has almost outgrown her 9 month sleepers and finding 1-piece sleepers for 12 month plus seems to be hard to find in brick & mortar stores around here.

I was going to order some from Carters online, but I wanted to check here first. A couple of the reviews have said that they run crazy small and super snug. I know pjs need to be tight, but I don't want to order a bunch and they not work out.

What has been your experience with their pjs for 12 months +?
