Thanks everyone! I guess I'll just play it nap by nap and hope she settles back into a routine again.

@Elderberrygin: I've had no issues when he has the off nap or night and wants to be rocked to sleep or sleep on me. It's never been more than a day and things go back to normal.

@jmarionsmith: same!

He is usually able to go back to his normal sleep after a regression, even if i've resorted to nursing during all wake ups.

We were amazingly lucky and didn't have any sleep regressions. But my theory on sleep is to do whatever it takes to get the baby to sleep. I'm always too tired to do anything else.

we do whatever it takes. it's weird but i guess my resolve has weakened from when we first sleep trained at 5 months. we're going through a sleep regression phase right now at 12 months and i am loving all the extra snuggles i get because he just wants to be rocked.

@kml636: that makes me feel better. We're room sharing until we move to a new apartment next month so I've been resorting to desperate measures to maximize sleep for everyone.

Well, I gotta say I've read all the books and sleep plans that say DON'T, but we travel A LOT and I've learned when traveling just to do whatever I have to to get her to sleep, and things will eventually go back to normal. So I really stressed about it at first but now, I will nurse her down, give her paci, let her sleep in our bed, etc, and we may have one rough night when things go back to normal but it's just easier that way IMHO.

After my first I would have said DON'T because they will get used to it... but during regressions we held/rocked my second and after she got through the regression (usually teething related) she went down on her own again just fine within a day or two. Totally depends on the baby. I say do what you need to do to get through the regression, but if it's because they're in pain, maybe consider holding/rocking them through it.

With my first though, we rarely ever went to him through regressions and he is just fine!

Ugh, I think we just hit the six month sleep regression. LO is on the verge of crawling and woke up at 2am on her tummy with her legs jammed through the crib slats and then dozed fitfully and wouldn't really settle. We ended up getting her up at 5.30 and she went to sleep at 6am for an hour long nap relatively easily. But she would not go down for her morning nap, despite showing all the tired signs. I ended up having to nurse her down which I never ever do, and now I'm worried that I'm going to undo all our hard work coaching her to fall asleep by herself.

What's your approach to a sleep regression? Go back to doing whatever it takes to get through it and trust things will go back to normal, or stay consistent? I've read conflicting advice on how to approach it.
