This used to happen to me with the night wakings. The baby had no trouble falling asleep but I would just feel like I was laying there(awake) with my eyes closed. I would put a lot of anxiety on myself thinking " you have to fall asleep! You're wasting valuable sleep time!" What helped me was stop playing on my phone or watching Netflix in the middle of the night. And to not put so much pressure on myself.

I basically would have to stay semi-asleep so I could fall asleep again. I didn't turn lights on, didn't play with my phone, and kept my eyes closed while he ate.

But in general, my sleep has gotten so much worse since I became a mom. I sleep lighter and wake up more. I guess it just goes with the territory.

I had the same problem. Now that LO is older and sleeping longer consistent chunks even if she does wake up (she's 15 months so she doesn't always wake thank goodness!) I have trouble getting back to sleep. I started just taking a bit of midnite or similar and it has worked.

@abbylyn: I still struggle with this so I really don't have great advice. But definitely keep the lights off and DO NOT PLAY ON YOUR PHONE. The screen time with definitely make it tought to go back to sleep.

Every time my LO's sleep pattern changes it takes me a few nights to adjust. I hope your body catches up soon!

@Dandelion: I usually drink a little water, but pretty much she nurses for 10 minutes or so, falls asleep, I'll hold her for a few minutes, then she's back in bed. I'll usually go use the bathroom, then climb back in bed. We don't even turn on a light anymore.

@abbylyn: it's still early, I hope you learn to sleep again soon!

My DS is 2 and I haven't been able to sleep since I was pregnant. I have trouble falling asleep and then trouble staying asleep. I wake up at least once between 11:30pm and 5:30am when I'm up for the day and get ready for work. On really bad nights, I fall asleep after midnight and wake up twice before 5:30am.

One thing that has helped me in the past was yoga. It helps me really relax and afterwards I have the best sleep. It's difficult for me to do every night, but I'm going to try.
I also try to make a point not to have my cellphone near my bed and drink hot decaf herbal tea an hour before.

What do you do during the night wakings? Do you eat or drink water? Do you change your LO's diaper? Try to do as little as you can during those wakings so that you don't shake yourself awake.

Recently, Lucy has started sleeping longer stretches at night, which is mostly awesome. She's 9 weeks old, and we're starting to get 4-5 hour stretches (or even a little longer) overnight instead of 2-3. The problem is, now I'm the one who can't fall back asleep! It's like my body thinks that because I got 4-5 hours of sleep, I'm done for the night and must not need anymore. It's almost 7am and I've been awake off and on since 3, which is going to make me miserable today. Help!
