My sisters shared a bed. From 3rd grade to 7th grade I shared a room with my other 3 siblings. My brother and I had the bunk bed. My sister slept in a full size bed together. They didnt mind. If anything they liked it cause they always had a buddy.

I shared a bed with one sister or the other until I was probably 9. We had a full size bed at first, and then a queen size. All 3 of us would end up in the same bed until my older sister was probably 7?

My mom said it definitely kept us out of their bed, and I didn't really have a problem with it until right before I turned 9.

Ours are almost the same ages, and they’ve been sharing off and on for six months. I think it’s often comforting for them, so I encourage it. We are thinking of getting privacy pop tents for each of them in case they like the coziness or sometimes want their own space. I intend for them to share a room for a long time, and I’m happy for them to share a bed if they like it.

Tell me about siblings bedsharing!

It's starting to happen in our house and I would love others experiences.

DS1 will be 4 in Feb and DS2 is 2. When a caregiver is putting them to bed they often fall asleep in DS1's bed (twin on the floor) or DS2 will join DS1 in the night. They both tend to sleep through the night when they bedshare. DH and I both work evenings for a week or two at a time a few times a year (they have a lot of evening babysitters sometimes).

When they don't DS2 will end up in our bed a few times a night (we are working on this).

I was about to get a small loft bed for DS1 and DS2 would sleep under it. But I don't want to ruin a good thing!

Does anyone have experience with this?

How old is he? He may have his days and nights mixed up so he sleeps really well during the day but basically needs to be coaxed at night. My suggestion is to pick a time to wake up in the morning and consistently wake him up at that time and get him some sun, and then don't let him nap more than two hours at a time each nap. (He can go back to sleep after he eats but keep the naps at 2-2.5 hours). Then bedtime should be 12 hour after the time you wake up. Create a consistent bedtime routine, keep it dark and quiet to signal night time, and put him to bed. Any wakings keep dark and quiet and work to put him to sleep. You should slowly see the hours he needs to be held shift later and later as his clock moves. The hardest for me was when my youngest son's hours for holding were 2-6am and then I would have to wake us up at 73am to start the day, but he had it sorted out in 2 weeks. Just be consistent.

We also lined his rock n play with my dirty shirts under the sheet, swaddled tight, and then placed warm rice socks against his side and belly to help him feel warm and held.

We are trying to get our newborn to sleep in his swaddle me by your side sleeper (which we’ve put in the pack n play since he doesn’t seem to like sleeping in it.) He’ll sleep all day alone in is swaddle me by your side sleeper than 9:30PM hits he will not sleep unless one of us is holding him in the glider.

PLEASE HELP. I am exhausted. My husband goes back to work on Monday and I’m scared what this will be like when it’s only me up with him.

It's already been said, but that first month is just survival mode. A couple days after we brought the baby we started taking shifts. Each shift was 5 hours, so the other person could really get some decent sleep. We camped out with the baby in the family room and slept on the couch.

For the first five weeks of both of our kids' lives they slept in our arms in a reclining chair - my husband and I took turns holding them while the other person slept. As long as you don't keep it up for, like, six months it should be easy enough to switch them to a bassinet once they're a bit bigger.

Definite survival mode. We have a growing pile of items that DD2 will not sleep in... An in bed cosleeper, pack nnay, rock n play, regular crib. I swore up and down that we would not cosleep again but it's the only way anyone gets any rest. Our older child cannot sleep with a screaming baby in the house and we as parents need to be at least a little rested in order to properly care for our kids.

Definitely all about survival at this point! Dont worry!

That said - I did try to create a "routine" early on. Meaning, DDs slept in various location but wherever they were there were a few things that were the same. 1) Sound machine...we used the marpac dohm and LOVE it - its with here wherever she sleeps...so its a familiar "sleep" sound for her. 2) Diaper change, jammies, lotion rub down (later essential oils). 3) Sleepsack/Swaddle/etc - my girls have both been swaddle babies 4) Lights low, soft voices.

This way - when we'd start doing these "routine" items they have learned from an early stage that thats a indicator of sleep coming.

I totally agree with survival mode. I never thought I'd co-sleep but right now the only way anyone is sleeping is if DS sleeps in bed with me. I also think it's good to have babies sleep in different environments like bassinet, PNP, different rooms... We did that with our DD and she can sleep well anywhere. We started a routine around 3 weeks with DD and I hope to do the same this time.

Don't worry, babies don't learn habits this early, per my pediatrician! She called this time "survival mode," which is so accurate. My son slept in our arms for a couple weeks, the RNP for about two months, and we just transitioned to the bassinet. He'll be three months at the end of the week.

We're trying to figure out this new life with a baby after a rough few days adjusting on pretty much no sleep. My husband and I are now taking turns with him at night so we can each get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. But this means the baby is sleeping in different rooms and environments. i.e. in a pack n play in the bedroom or in a little bassinet in the living room with the TV blasting. Just wherever we are and can put him down, and it seems he does better when there's noise.

Just wondering if this is kind of the norm at the beginning and if we're setting him up for any bad habits? Eventually I'll want him to have a proper sleep routine where he sleeps in a quiet room in the dark in his crib but that's just not going to happen right now. Am I doing any damage this early on? We are really just doing whatever we can to hang on right now and be able to function!

@GreenThumb: The ones I posted all seem to have water-resistant removable covers that go in the washer... that's where my confusion is, if I still need a cover in addition!

None seem to be completely "waterproof" but I think it needs to have a plastic/vinyl surface in order to really achieve that, which I'm hoping to avoid.
