@karmita: We got the Cruz and I love it! SO happy I didn't get the Vista... a lot of moms around me have it, but it's definitely bigger and heavier, and I am constantly throwing our stroller in the car and dragging it up the front steps and I'm glad to not have that extra weight. And we've survived having it in the winter. That being said, I won't take it out in a huge snowstorm, the wheels definitely get stuck if there's a lot of snow or a lot of slush and you have to push quite hard. But on those days we're mostly indoors or taking the car anyway, so it hasn't been a big deal at all.

So I don’t live in an area where I need to use our stroller for transportation but either because I was working part time or because of our schedules I have been forced pretty often to run through or run errands in some very snow/icy/slushy conditions with our BOB Ironman and BOB Revolution strollers. Again if there are 2 feet of snow you’re not going to get anything to push through, but you can muster through a few inches of fresh snow on top of whatever is underneath. BOBs are really big so probably wouldn’t be practical, but anything with real tires is going to be better than something with hard wheels.

We just have two. A First Years folding stroller for travel, and a Graco for shopping days, snow, etc. The Graco is built like a tank - we're on the second one, and they've both lasted three years of really heavy use. They also hold a car seat nicely. The downside is, they are heavy and don't really fold - the top folds over, but the bottom takes just as much space. The First Years is just as durable if it's not overloaded, very light, and very foldable.

In any case, if it snows a lot we just take a bus, no stroller. There are always giant piles of snow at every street corner, and there's no stroller that can ride over that.

@tinyperson it’s not so much the snow as the icy slush that happens like minutes after snowfall in the city- I have turned it around so the big wheels are in front, but it drives me crazy how hard it is to turn that way. Also they say to take off the small wheels and pull the stroller like a cart in the snow but... no.

@lioneyes: weird - our cameleon has been great, except on the really heavy snowfall days. You can use the frame with the big wheels in front in heavier snow - it loses maneuverability, but it works!

I have a Bugaboo Cameleon and it is NOT GOOD in snow. Front wheels are too small. I love the stroller besides that issue, so would get the Buffalo or Frog or whatever they are now calling the single stroller that's higher and has real tires in the front.

We have a Chariot Trailer and I love it for keeping my LO warm and dry in the snow. I have only used it while riding in the snowstorms but the rear wheels are so big I think it handles fine. It is a beast to store and it’s hard to fold though. But I really like it for bad conditions. We recently bought a house in the city with a garage but if you don’t have that option it’s probably not the best.

What about a Phil and Ted’s? They seem very maneuverable.

@Goldengirl: hi there! i'm finding myself in your same position two years later. live DT Toronto, worried about snow, don't want something too bulky/large as i live in a high rise (elevators). Like the Cruz but am worried about the wheels being inadequate. What did you end up going w/? and any thoughts w/ all this experience? :)

I thought the Vista was good in the snow (I was in Toronto too) but on the really shitty snow days I still struggled and baby wearing was much easier. I haven't used my Vista for a while but don't remember it being too heavy and clunky. We could bounce it up and down steps okay.

@Goldengirl: I remember reading this review about the snow and strollers- might be helpful, though both strollers are big ones. My friend has the bugaboo buffalo and got through that awful winter ok but needed help from random kind strangers when she got caught at crosswalks that were plowed in. http://mbeans.com/spillingthebeans/baby/strollers/for-the-rugged-outdoors-mom-the-bugaboo-buffalo-stroller-vs-the-bob-revolution-flex/

I live in Brooklyn and have a Vista and a Citi Mini GT Double. Both fine in the snow but I have two pet peeves with the GT that would make me pick my Vista or a Cruz over it. I really think for the first 6 months or so that you really want to have a seat that can face you. Secondly I do a bunch of grocery shopping in my neighborhood and the GT has such a small basket that I can barely get my diaper bag and a few other things in it, let alone the entire grocery trip I'm able to do with the Vista.

I live in Chicago and used to walk my son home from daycare on the unshoveled sidewalks to our condo about a half mile away. I had a City Mini (not GT), which I generally love, but it was terrible in the deep snow. I once walked home with a friend of mine who lived in the neighborhood and she had the GT and it did not fare any better than my City Mini. I then purchased the Baby Jogger Summit X3 as an open box deal on Amazon and it was night and day difference. Admittedly, I was restricted to easy to fold strollers since I had to store my stroller at daycare all day so lots of the jogging type strollers that would have been fine weren't really options. Our strollers had to be collapsed and folded and put on shelves in a designated area in the daycare and we needed it to be easy to transport for our purposes as well. I generally agree that baby wearing is great in bad weather but when my son was 2 and I was lugging a laptop bag and work files, babywearing in the snow just wasn't a feasible option. As for strollers, I think you need big tires that lock for when the weather is bad and you should consider whether that foldability is important to you or not (i.e. where the stroller gets stored at home or at daycare, etc. when not in use).

We have a Cruz in NYC but when there is snow on the ground I use our umbrella stroller or when lo was little baby wear. I felt so much better having him close to my body in the cold. The umbrella stroller I can lift over in a shoveled spots.

If you have front stairs to go up I could not get a vista. The Cruz or city mini GT are so much easier to get up stairs. The Cruz you have to switch the seat to forward facing to close it and that bugged me because it was an extra step. That said, I loved having a parent facing stroller and would not have picked something else.

I have the vista and had a 1.5 year old during bostons insanely snowy winter. Nothing could get through the snow- sidewalks weren't shoveled wide enough and the curb cutouts to cross the street would get plowed in. Baby wearing was 1000x easier. I've hear the bugaboo buffalo is one of the best in the snow. For my vista even with 2-3 inches if fresh snow it sucked. But I really like everything else about the visit and it's great for bumping up curbs or a couple of steps. I used it on public transportation during off peak hours and never had a problem.

But like other people have noted the fold isn't the easiest or smallest and it's heavy- I wouldn't choose it if I had to put it in my trunk very often. Never had much of a problem in stores and I used it to do all my grocery shopping when I just had one. The Cruz looks awesome too though.

No stroller is good in deep snow. I wouldn't let snow be s factor in your decision since you are talking a few days in the winter thstvthisxeven matters. I have had the Cruz, the vista and the gluxe and none are great in the snow. You just kind of muddle through those days. I also found using a baby carrier in the snow is your best bet and I did that when I had one kid.

I'm in Toronto and used the Vista with my first, loved it no problems with snow or transit as long as I stayed in subway routes.
With my second and third I use a MB Duet. Also great in the snow. The push isn't as nice as the vista, but the UBV sucked as a double.
I'd look at the Valco Snap it's really light and has great features.

When we lived in Chicago when DS1 was a baby, we had the citi mini GT and walked every day to drop him off at daycare. When it was really snowy, we baby wore as I don't think any stroller is really good at going through snow but it handled better than I had hoped. We never had problems with tipping but we never hand anything from the handle.

@Goldengirl: I'm in toronto and have the cruz. The snow we had in April was too much for it (although no one had shovelled) if you're going out after people have shovelled it's ok. We actually bought a second hand mountain buggy swift for daycare runs now. I have to leave my stroller locked up outside and didn't want the cruz to get ruined and this thing has big wheels that will be better in snow.

The everything else about the cruz is fine, I can bump it up and down the ttc steps ok and the basket is amazing.

@Goldengirl: It has tipped a few times when we have overloaded the handlebars with things like groceries, which you are DEFINITELY not supposed to do. And once or twice my son has climbed into it when he wasn't supposed to, stood up, and it has tipped. Luckily he has never been injured. I didn't realize that was a known "issue" with this stroller though, so I just assumed it was a generic stroller problem.

We pretty much never recline the stroller unless he falls asleep.

This is probably the predominant stroller in my town, fwiw.

@Goldengirl: once the sidewalks have been cleared it's fine! though in NYC, it mostly melts pretty quickly after a big storm. I did a google image search of what I mean-- this is pretty typical for here: https://thesmokingnun.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/dscn5713.jpg it's impossible to get through the tiny paths people clear and then there will be a huge random snow bank where someone didn't clear, and then in 2 days it's all melted, lol

@Madison43: Thanks! It sounds like such a good stroller, I am just afraid of the weight. I tried lifting the City Select yesterday which I think is about the same weight and I couldn't believe how heavy it felt. I wish I could invent a light stroller with awesome tires!

@Goldengirl: Yes, it definitely is top heavy, especially when compared with the other strollers I've had (4 of them at this point!). I am hyper-aware of it though and just make sure to keep my toddler from climbing up on it in a dangerous way or hanging too much stuff hanging from the handle. It's never actually tipped over since we've had it. I should add though that we've never used it with the seat reclined (by the time we got it, my "baby" was already a toddler and she only likes to sit up).

@nana87: Were you able to use it in just regular snow? i.e. after the sidewalks were plowed? I agree, I can't really imagine taking it out in 3 feet of snow and probably wouldn't do that!

@catlady: Thanks!! Can you comment also on my question above re: tipping with the GT? I was a bit concerned about that.

Since I'll probably be walking a lot, I'm not sure how often I'll need to fold and lift it, but I imagine it will happen from time to time, at least to drag it up my front steps... and even that just seems so difficult. I'm a weakling!

I'm a Vista groupie. It is as good as a stroller can be in the snow I think. I never really had a problem in stores and most restaurants where I was (Brooklyn) wanted you to park your stroller outside or fold it up and leave it at the front so it didn't really matter how big it was or wasn't. The manuverability and tires on the Vista are the critical components for strolling in the snow (which sucks, btw, no matter how nice your stroller is  ). If you were looking elsewhere, I'd look at models with comparable, large tires. The small hard plastic wheels of most light weight strollers just won't push throw snow. All that said, the vista is heavy for real to carry, so if you are in a walk up building or need to go up and down a lot of stairs to get to public transit, it may be a problem.

I have a Cruz in a city (NYC) that gets snow--I love the Cruz in general but I actually avoid using ANY stroller right after we have a big snowfall because most of the sidewalks don't get shoveled right away, or only partially get cleared, and nothing's going to get through! I typically would wear lo when it was really bad out.
