@allison: @Mrs Green Grass: @hilsy85: @Mrs. Superhero: I'm going to play around and try to see if I can do this as a transition for now in the Ergo - Thanks!

I think I will try the K'tan with legs out this week (she'll be 12 weeks) and see how it goes!

We stopped using the ergo insert around 3.5 months I think? We did legs out in the moby around 8 wks I think. He was MUCH more comfortable that way.

@Mrs Green Grass: That's exactly what I did when we first stopped using the ergo insert--it felt like a bit much to have his legs so spread immediately. Do you have the pillow part that came with the insert? You can put that under his butt.

I kept using the insert but had her legs out for a while. Maybe 3 months to 4 months? And then at 4 I stopped using the insert.

Great timing for a post (for me!). For me it's tricky because lo is really small for 4 months, only 11 pounds 9 ounces, but he's pretty long.

I've been doing legs out in the k'tan for about a month. It felt like he would fall out in the newborn position.

In Ergo I stopped using the insert at least a month ago and would just have his feet rest on the top of the waist belt, knees splayed. It worked really well. But I'm just at the point where that didn't feel right and I'm experimenting with legs out. It's not quite right yet...I almost feel like he needs a little seat under his butt. But he was getting too tall with his legs in.

3.5 months. Legs were spread out and looked uncomfortable but she didn't cry and was quite happy that way.

There are some Babywearing "schools of thought" that no longer recommend using the froggy position at all (legs out from birth). If i were you I would try it and see how you feel!

I always wore LO with her legs out in the RS. I started using a rolled up blanket in lieu of the Ergo insert at 8 weeks.

I stopped using the insert around 2 months/14 lbs. He did better with me than with DH at first, because I'm more narrow. Now at almost 4 months, he's fine with whomever. I actually "splayed" his legs with the insert at probably 6 weeks or so because he seemed to be more comfortable that way than with his knees all up. I say do whatever feels most comfortable for both of you (she'll let you know if she doesn't like it!).

@shopaholic: oh. Derp. Sorry. Sick mommy brain here!
I stopped at 8-10 weeks. DS is on the large side (14.5lbs at 2 months old) so I felt he would be ok without.

For those of you who baby-wear, when did you start doing legs splayed-out kinds of positions? The instructions say "when baby is fully stretching legs"- I'm confused. I think K's been stretching her legs since she was born?

If you used the Ergo, when did you stop using the infant insert?
K is still too young I think to go without the insert, but she's always flexing her legs now, when I try to put her in the K'tan. and ends up sliding sometimes in the Ergo Infant Insert.
ETA: I should say not sliding out of the Ergo, but she kind of wants to straighten herself in the insert sometimes.
