I totally believe that the physical differences between a girl pregnancy and a boy pregnancy have an effect on the mother's health! Granted DS was my second and second pregnancies tend to be harder anyway, but he was almost a pound bigger than DD at birth and that took a toll on my body. And he got so much bigger, so much faster than DD which has also been hard on my body. Carrying around a 2.5 foot, 20 lb 9 month old all day is a big workout!

@anbanan15: wow ok, thanks for the rundown! I was just kidding about getting back to me, but based on that info I'm not sure DS is spirited per the definition, although I think my BFF's DS is!

@T-Mom: Sorry! I thought I answered (must have just been in my head lol)...

I'm basing my assessment of our spirited child based on family history (my brother was referred to as this and my mom says DS reminds him of that) and Mary Sheedy Kurcinka's characteristics of a spirited child:

1. intensity - don't cry but shriek, intense inward OR outward focus
2.persistence - lock into activities/tasks they view important
3. sensitivity - overstimulated easy, respond to slight changes in environment (she states not being able to shop or getting dressed as examples)
4. perceptiveness - noticing everything which may appear like they do not listen
5. adaptability - uncomfortable with change, don't easily shift from one task to the next, easily distracted

I haven't read the entire book though. Only the first chapter...twice haha...so I don't know all the details of her definition, just the cliff notes version. Hope that helps!

@T-Mom: haha this reminds me your comment on my spirited child thread about them just being boys :)

Interesting read! I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing being mommy to a girl (yet hopefully), but my little man sure is draining and always full of so much energy.

I thought this article was interesting since I have a son and he is certainly more draining at the toddler stage than my DD ever was. Plus, it mentioned that having a daughter actually lengthened a mother's life (maybe cuz daughters tend to actually care for their parents more in old age?). It sounds like the results are not entirely conclusive or supported by any other studies, so this is just for fun!

Yesterday I woke up feeling like the whole apartment needs to be cleaned...NOW! I'm almost 38 weeks, and this baby is coming, and I don't want her coming home to this mess. (It was an over reaction, but the house DID need some help.)

The problem is that I'm supposed to be resting, cause if I move much, my feet swell up and my blood pressure rises way more than my midwife likes.

So, of course, then I cried at feeling so helpless.

DS came home from school and picked up the entire living room. I helped a bit, cause he's only 5, and not all of it is his stuff, but we got the place tidy in less than 20 minutes. He even used cleaner on all the surfaces and dusted everywhere.

DH got out of work early (a REALLY rare event, cause he's a workaholic, lol) and finished up everything else AND ordered dinner so that I wouldn't have to cook.

Also, my cats have been great at keeping my company while I lie in bed and mope. I call them my nurses, lol.

So, today my bp is still up when I move, but my house is clean! I really CAN relax today. :)
