When my LO was learning the bottle I would stop and pull the bottle out every 20 seconds or so. We burped about every 1.5-2 oz

@theknest: At that age, we would stop and burp after every ounce.

Whoops. Should have finished reading the responses.

My lactation consultant said you should burp for every ounce. Getting good burps throughout a bottle feeding helps us with spit up.

Thanks ladies - it's helping! I feel like such a goof for not realizing the reason she was spitting up was b/c she was getting too much milk!

Hold the bottle parallel to the ground rather than tipping it up so gravity isn't helping her guzzle the milk too fast.

We are using avent natural bottles - size 1 nipples. But wasn't taking too many breaks, just one half way thru.

Sounds like she is getting too much milk too fast. Use the slowest nipple she will tolerate and take breaks during feeding.

Are you using the slowest flow possible for her nipple? Which bottles have you tried?

My 9 week old daughter nurses great and never spits up...but when I give her a bottle of pumped breast milk she'll spit up a lot (about half the time). I go back to work on Tuesday and am worried about how she'll do at daycare. Anyone else experience this? Any tips/tricks?

He never spit up early on but then started spitting up around 4 months and by 6 months he rarely spit up. I remember at 6.5 months telling his GI doctor that he didn't spit up anymore.

My LO still spits up a good bit and she's 7 months now. I was wondering this too because I expected it to slow down by now. Actually, though, it did slow down and it started back up last week. I was wondering if it was related to teething but we'll see.

If your LO spit up a lot in infancy, when did it slow down notably or stop? My LO is 6.5 months and he still spits up a good bit. Some say that when you start with food it will slow down, but I haven't noticed a real difference. I went for our 6 month check last week and the pediatrician seemed slightly concerned about it as if it should have stopped by now and commented we will get an upper GI if it hasn't stopped at his next visit. So when did your LO stop?
