This is the point at which we tossed a few soft stuffed animals into the crib. Each boy has slept with about 3-4 different ones plus a small soft plushy blanket and a toddler pillow since they could pull up. The idea is that if they fall over, it might be a little bit of a bumper. Between that and the mesh bumpers, there was enough stuff around the crib where I didn't think it would do much damage. I left my kids alone. They would cry and tip over at some point and fall back asleep. It only lasted a few days.

I agree with @SweetiePie: and just let it pass. The fascination will eventually wane. If you haven't lowered your crib yet, you'll definitely want to do that.

@cake2017: well, he’s getting to the Bumps and bruises stage since he’s crawling and pulling up and soon cruising. So, it’s going to happen. He’s not going to get majorly hurt from bumping his head on the crib, so I just let it go. That’s how they learn!
But if you aren’t comfortable with that, I wouldn’t go in and just lay him down. I would go in and not talk or really acknowledge (so he knows it’s not playtime) and I would help him get down. Like move his arms and legs to show him how to get back down. If that makes sense.

But he will learn and figure it out, this is temporary. And normal and good! Because he’s learning a new skill.

@cake2017: normal/they all do it with new skills. nothing you can really do. It’ll last a week or so then he’ll be over it and sleep will go back to normal. Just try to keep things consistent and don’t create new sleep crutches.

He sleeps well now just this.

We had a music table that I took the legs off of when they were little. When I put the legs back on they both liked to pull up on it to get to the buttons that made music. Also, my DS never pulled himself up until we put up our baby jail/gate in the living room. The first time I left the kids in it while I went to the bathroom, he started screaming and pulled himself right up like it was magic. He was unstoppable after that. My kids used the little push Walker things, but they weren't greater for the initial pulling up stage because the walkers were unsteady and they would flip it over, especially if they were both trying to pull up on the same one. Eta: I forgot - Alice's first time pulling up was actually on my arm - she wanted to get to the bowl of ice cream in my hand!

We have a single step between our kitchen and sunroom and we have a twin mattress set up as a floor bed in her room, those two were both the first things she "pulled up" on. The lower height really helped her develop the muscles well and we didn't have much of that awful phase where they don't know how to get down because she had practiced at a lower height.

We also have a toy cube which is a great height and those baby play tables are great. I also saw a suggestion for issuing the outside of the exersaucer but she actually still has a hard time with that even though she can use walls to stand up. Beyond that she uses the usual suspects, coffee table, couch, dining chairs.

@Chillybear: My LOs sleep got worse with the standing up, too. We just recently started letting her cry when she wakes up, because when she wakes up and cries she typically cries 10 min or less, but if we go in and pick her up and put her down, then she'll cry over and over and the whole process ends up taking much longer.

If she cries longer than 10 min, we go in and pat her.

It's definitely a brutal stage! I hope it passes quickly for you---we are still a work in progress over here.

I know you said you're not comfortable with CIO, and neither was I, but it ended up being the only thing that worked for us during this stage. LO would wake up crying and we'd find him standing in his crib, I would try and shush him to sleep (we had used the sleep lady shuffle around 4-5 months, so I tried that again) but it just wasn't working. As soon as I left the room, he'd start again and we had to go through the whole thing all over. It got so bad that he would start crying as soon as he noticed me lowering him over his crib to put him down. Then one night, after waking up 4+ times, my husband told me I either had to shut the door and let him cry, or he'd move baby and crib into the kitchen where we wouldn't be able to hear him... I was exhausted, so I closed the door to the nursery, climbed back into bed and waited for DS to stop crying (we share a wall so I can hear him pretty well). It lasted 15 minutes, not half as long as I had feared... And he's sleeping much much better since! So this novel is only to say that you could always try letting her cry for a little bit, she might surprise you just like my LO did!

ETA: DH is not a harsh person, so please don't think he'd put baby in the kitchen for real! See it as a 4 am sleep deprived figure of speech!
