I introduced them all by 8 months or so. The only thing I held off on was honey.

@sunny: The first time we just spread some natural peanut butter on homemade teething biscuits and let him chew it. We've also mixed it into some quinoa cereal. We did the same thing for other nut butters (like almond butter and cashew butter). We just watched him extra closely the first couple of times he had each nut butter. I'm not familiar with bamba - sorry!

For those of you who introduced peanuts early, how did you do it? Did you take any special precautions (e.g. have benadryl on hand)? Did you try bamba? Did you try peanut butter (Plain or diluted with anything)?

I'm nervous! I want to do this soon. LO is 10 months and we haven't tried any of the major allergens yet.

@atoz: We introduced them as they came up in something we were eating. The only rule we followed was no honey before 1 because of the botulism risks. Our doctor said that the new recommendations suggest not delaying introduction for any reason. There are no significant allergies on either side of our family which increased our comfort level. As soon as we started solids I made sure to have Benadryl on hand and asked the Dr about dosage just incase.

We don't have a history of allergies either (though my LO was allergic to cow's milk). Even still, our doc recommended BLW starting at 6 months, or once baby could sit unassisted, and introducing all foods (even allergy risk foods) on a normal basis. She also said there wasn't a need to introduce 1 food at a time (or you'd still be introducing foods at 2+ years old). We were told we could come to her office if we were nervous about a certain food (and test it there).

7 months, but I wanted to wait until 8. DH gave DD a bite of pad Thai while on a cruise (middle of the ocean day too, no less) while I was somewhere else, after I explicitly told him no allergens on the cruise. He forgot pad Thai had highly allergenic foods?! Good thing the peanuts, eggs, and shrimp didn't cause any reactions, but I was still pissed!

DD is 7 months and so far isn't super into solids--we're doing a few spoonfuls a day but otherwise breastfeeding is going strong, and I'm okay with that. Food before one is mainly for fun, right?

However, since we're not pushing solids a ton, I'm more unsure than ever about when to introduce the more common allergenic foods (strawberries, peanuts, egg whites, etc.). For what it's worth, no one in my family has a history of allergies.

I plan on asking our pediatrician, but I'm curious to know when (and even how!) you all introduced various allergens with your LOs.

I usually keep offering until she seems not interested- not openin her mouth so quickly, throwing things off the side of the tray, looking around instead of at me or her tray. Since she eats mostly fruits and vegetables I don't really worry about it being too much. There are things I will cut off- she eats an entre pear and I won't cut into a new one for her, I won't give her more than half an avocado (haha because I want some too!), and I really really limit banana because she gets constipated easily. I also limit her yogurt because I think she would just keep going!

We do mostly blw so she automatically stops when she's done, so I just watch for her cues when I'm spoon feeding her. I take a pretty laid back approach and trust her, in general. She's been a really good eater since we started solids at six months.

DD is 8 months and we are still trying to figure that out. In general, she loves eating and will eat just about anything you put infront of her, now that she can pick things up and feed herself (for the most part, we are still learning.) We have to watch her super closely because she will take bites that are too big and will choke (and it is terrifying when it is a for real, can't breath at all choke.)

We always give her either the puffs, mum-mums or yogurt bites we got her or bits of our food. She may get a "lunch" when I eat but she almost always gets some kind of dinner. Admittedly as a way to occupy her while we eat and make sure she gets some real food and not just the puff/mum-mum/yogurt go-to's.

We let her eat as much as she wants. Nine times out of ten she doesn't want that much but if we land on a food she loves & she's in the right mood we just keep going until she stops opening her mouth for more! Right around the time I think she must be getting really full, her interest starts to slow down.

I actually have the opposite problem though that I have to be really careful to not try to force feed her. I catch myself trying to get her to eat when she's clearly over it - I just hate wasting food!

I have an almost 9 month old, and we're kind of hit and miss with the food. Pretty much whatever it is, I let her eat as much as she wants. She always has food after breastmilk, so it's not usually very much, although once in a while she'll down an entire pouch of puree. We do mostly baby led weaning, and sometimes it's hard to say what ends up in her tummy and what ends up on the floor... I only feed lunch and dinner, and even lunch is sometimes very little solids if we're out and about.

Just let her eat as much as she wants until she is full(except for constipating foods like bananas!). Babies know when to stop eating.

My LO didn't really like food for a long while. I offered him one meal a day starting at 5.5 months, and he didn't really take much until 9/10 months! He still isn't really that excited by it (at 11 months), and will absolutely refuse to eat if he has a cold or is under the weather. He does love his bottles, so he still gets five 5-6oz bottles per day. I think I need to cut down on his bottle volume to get him to eat a little more solid food.

Well, my LO is 6.5 months old. We started eating solids around 5.5 months because she was actively trying to take our food. At a lactation club meeting, she tried to grab a grape and even the LC was like, "Oh, she is definitely ready for solid foods."

We started with oatmeal cereal and then branched out to sweet potatoes and went on from there. We typically introduce a new food in the afternoons and then I send foods she has already had to the sitter's. We would do foods she's had for dinner and then we usually introduce a new food like this: 1-just new food, 2-3-new food with oatmeal cereal. We've started mixing foods that she's had together and she loves it. She hasn't really met a food she hasn't liked, but there are foods she obviously likes better. I don't feed her the same thing over and over again because I think she likes the variety. Nowadays it's better because she has a few things to choose from.
Her schedule will be like this: 6 a.m. nurse, 9 a.m. bottle, 11:30 solids, 12:30 bottle, 3:30 bottle, 5:30 solids, 6:45/7 nurse and bed.
