Thanks ladies! If we had a target in Canada, I'd go, but our Zellers haven't converted yet.

I'll definitely be hitting the local Dollar store for most of these items.

Tim Horton's is my DH's favourite coffee shop.

How about an ornament with a wedding photo or another sentimental gift? Our stockings always have candy, toiletries, and small gifts. Oh, and a clementine orange in the toe!!!

For our stocking, we like to fill them with gift cards, small sized items like electronic accessories, new pens, lotions, chapstick, socks, undies, etc. We also like to get some spice rubs, sauces, and similar items because we love to cook.

For budget items, what are his interests/hobbies? I love thrift shops and Goodwill for kitschy, one of the kind little things. They've got books there, sometimes they have things like sets of golf balls or gardening items, glassware (so you could get some mini bottles of alcohol for his fave drink and a vintage shot glass or cocktail glass), ornaments, records, etc. Sometimes they (or a Dollar Tree type store) might have razors on sale, shaving mirror, nice men's soap, etc.

I usually put snacks or treats in his stocking to fill it up some more. Especially things that we don't typically buy or only he likes - for him it's mostly asian snacks like shrimp chips or spicy squid, but also little things like snickers or corn nuts or beef jerky.

I also find an ornament for the tree that's related to something special we did that year. Like the year we honeymooned in NYC, I got him an ornament of the empire state bldg. He always puts a mini frame ornament with the year and a photo in my stocking too.

we do lots of candy - like holiday Reeses trees and marshmallow Santa. it's small and it gets eaten so no knick-knacks to hang around the house afterwards.
sometimes things like socks, gift cards, gloves, iPhone case, etc.

I'm putting in a small LED flashlight, coffee, socks, screen for cooking bacon, gas card, and I don't know what else yet!

I second the $1 bins at Target, they have some good stuff!

My husband is getting: beef jerky, wireless mouse, pajama pants, a bottle of salad dressing from Olive Garden since he's obsessed with their dressing, socks, and whatever else I can think of between now and then.

I'd check out the dollar bins at Target for some fun goodies. Also, the dollar store has a lot of little things, including cooking gadgets, munchies, even stuff for the garage.

@mediagirl: good stocking ideas! thanks! my mom never put anything in ours growing up, but I was thinking of starting with the girls this year. Tim Hortons is a coffee and donuts place, like Dunkin Donuts.

Our stocking are always full of toiletries. It's not out of budget if you're buying things you need! What's a Tim Hortons? We always do scratch-offs, as well. And candy coins that just get reused each year because, well, they're gross. Haha.

Oh! Socks! Everyone needs a new pair of socks!

I'm trying to fill my husbands Stocking this year on a budget. It's a bit of a challenge! Last year I was ordering free things from Vistaprint for the wedding, and got him a free hat and t-shirt to put in, as well as notebooks and pens. But this year, I can't budget for the shipping costs.
I WISH I had thought to keep some of the freebies I got in the mail a secret, then I could have put the deodorant and razor in there at no cost!

Here's the list of ideas so far, and no, I'm not stuck on any of them:
toothbrush
favourite candy- M and m's
socks
$5 Tim Horton's Card
Lottery Ticket
Boxers
chapstick
gloves
t-shirt?
car airfreshener
earplugs (for work)
homemade "coupons"

What do you like to put in your SO's Christmas stocking?
