@Trailmix: I guess we're the odd one out when it comes to using the harness vs. the baby seat! My LO hated being strapped in but he never tried climbing out. Now at 2 he is totally fine climbing in and out of the chair and not using a harness. I think the 3-pt is probably fine for your LO!

@lepamplemousse described perfectly how to make adjustments. The screws just loosen the sides of the chair. I also agree about the felt stick-ons...you really scored a great deal!!!

I think you're ok with the 3 pt harness. We had to buy a new harness because ours didn't have it. But the shoulder straps are kind of annoying because they keep slipping off his shoulder. I don't think it makes much of a difference otherwise.

Stokke sells this tray with suction cups that you put on the table but it's ridiculous at $90. We just got a cheap plastic tray (like the ones you serve food on). It helps keep the table cleaner and you can bring it to the sink and wash. Someone on Amazon said they used these double sided suction cups things so their kid wouldn't flip the tray but so far my son has been pretty good about that.

@lepamplemousse: I've been stalking CL for months too and couldn't find anything for under $120 and that was without the baby seat and often without any straps at all! Crazy! This chair only has the 3-point harness (goes around the waist and between the legs), do you think I need the 5-point? Twins will be one on Sunday...
Thanks for the info about the screws, I will look at that link and figure it out. I think this chair actually already has those felt stick-ons, haha!

@MrsMcD: Yup, pretty insane, right? I guess to some people it's not worth the hassle of trying to sell it or give it away or something? I don't know, it's in really good condition. Major, major score for me

I can't believe you got it for free! We got ours on Craigslist after months of stalking.

Definitely skip the baby attachment. You can skip it once they can stay seated unassisted. LO is 19 months and we just use the 5 pt harness. I think the one you have is fine too.

The bolts on the side loosen with a hex wrench (or a Phillips head screwdriver) so you have enough slack to slide the boards out. The bolts don't actually go into the boards. The instructions are very similar to the current model and you can get them off the website.
http://demandware.edgesuite.net/aaqf_prd/on/demandware.static/Sites-stokke-Site/Sites-stokke-master-catalog/en_US/v1401257068941/documents/153000%20TRIPP%20TRAPP%20Userguide%20US-AU%20-%20WEB.pdf

If you have hardwood floors I would recommend getting those felts things you stick on furniture feet. It helps the chair slide easier and doesn't mar your floor.

@Sammyfab: thanks! I looked on the sides but I only see the bolts that seem to hold the whole chair together, doesn't appear to be related to the seat/foot rest. I think this chair is an older model so maybe it's a little different? I'm not sure, will have to do some more research when I have a chance! Appreciate your thoughts about the tray and the adjusters. The harness on the chair loops around baby's waist and comes up through the crotch (does that make sense? Considered a 3-point harness, I think, as opposed to a 5-point that has straps over the shoulders).

@MamaMoose: thanks for weighing in! Think we will skip the tray and since it will be on hardwood floor, guess we won't have to worry about the adjusters. Also good to hear you stopped using the baby seat at one.

Yay, can't believe I have one of these bad boys now!!

We removed the infant attachment around 1 year so I think you're fine to skip it at this point. But we do still use the harness with our 18 month old. She never tries to climb out (but does try to climb IN the high chair if I haven't prepped dinner fast enough).

Skip the tray. The whole point of the Tripp Trapp is that it's supposed to be developmentally beneficial to the child to be pulled up to the table to eat with the family.

Loosen the side screws and that will allow you to slide out the seat/footplate and slide back into the position you want.

You only need the foot adjusters if you're using the seat on carpet.

Hurray! We have a Tripp Trapp and LOVE it! Our experience with it so far is that we used the baby seat up until he turned 2 and now he sits in the regular seat with no harness. In fact, we haven't used the harness since he was maybe 9 months?

I can't tell what kind of straps/belt that is in the pic. How does it secure around a child? I think it depends on the kid, but I personally would be more comfortable with a baby seat at 1. The harness is useful if your kid is a climber/escapee.

We've never used a tray...we just push him right up to the table, so I would say that a tray is not useful. I think many HBers have it and like it though!

You adjust the seat and footplate by loosening the screws at the side. Then you can slide them forward and backwards.

Our highchair is on hardwood so we've never had issues with tipping. It's definitely a safety concern if you are putting it on carpet or a rug.

After months and months (literally, over 4 months!) of stalking this high chair on CL, I just found one on the street right next to our apartment! Wahoo! And it's in great condition!

Side note: you know you've truly gone over to the dark side of parenting when finding a high chair makes you out-and-out giddy!

So, my questions are:

Do I need to get the baby set? My twins are one year old.

Is this harness enough or should I look for the 5-point one?

Should I get the tray?

How do you adjust the height of the seat and foot rest?

Do I need to get the adjuster-things that are supposed to help it from falling backwards?

The date on the bottom says 10.10.03 and there's a serial number that I know is relevant to what the chair is compatible with that I can post if that's needed info.

Here's a pic of the chair for reference.

Thanks so much!!

I have the ergo sport and love it, but its really only useful when the baby is 4 months or older. I did try using it with the insert when she was younger but its a bit awkward using the insert especially when its hot.

AWESOME info ladies! I totally appreciate it all!

I think after all the discussions, I am going to have to test out the Beco, Boba, and Ergo in person. Maybe ask my cousin and her 6 m/o to come along so I can test them out.

@Pelikila & @JennyD - Thanks for the ring sling idea, but I have back problems and don't want to do a side/sling type of carrier. Though they do seem much easier than a wrap!

@CocoBee - Thanks for the warm welcome! The Beco does look the most comfortable for my frame size (from pictures). Glad to know you love it.

@Banana - Thanks for the "linty" advice! I would have chosen and all-black and yes, the lint would drive me crazy! lol. Will think about that and color choices!

@Keppa & @Ladyfingers- Thanks for the Boba suggestion - glad to hear you could use it so early and there is one with pockets!

@OwlMom - I'm not a strenuous hiker by any means. Maybe some one-hour, easy hikes in our nearby hills or when we are traveling/sight-seeing. I am also going to get a BOB stroller for when we go hike and go up to our mountain cabin.

We have an Ergo and love it. We started with a Moby because we didn't have the Ergo infant insert, but as soon as LO fit in the Ergo I switched her and haven't used the Moby since. At 11 months, we still use the Ergo every day, and it's very comfortable.

What kind of hikes do you typically take? While soft structured carriers are great for wearing around the house, running errands, and shorter walks, I'd recommend a hiking carrier if you're going to take longer, more difficult hikes or will be outside for extended periods of time. Most hiking carriers have sun shades and more storage capacity. We have an Osprey Poco Plus (http://www.ospreypacks.com/en/product/child_carriers/poco_plus) for hiking, and it's awesome! You can usually find hiking carriers used in good condition on craigslist and in consignment shops, too.

also, i found a video where you can unbuckle with ONE hand - the gemini but i'm sure butterfly applies too. let's say you lean a little forward, put the baby weight on the carrier. when you press the safety button with the baby weight on it, it "holds" the safety and you can click the buckle off - hard to explain but i can unbuckle everything with 1 hand but the one around the waist.

I registered for a Boba after reading this comparison chart. Front-face wasn't important for me because I've read it's hard on the back and can be too stimulating so if I want the baby to see what I see, I can just wear him on my back.

@shopaholic: I only wear her facing in because my Beco doesn't forward face.

@andrea: I have the Beco Butterfly II and I love how it fits. It's very slim so it's not all bulky and uncomfortable. It fits really nicely. I also like the modern prints! :) The buckles aren't hard to use at all in my opinion. You do need two hands to unbuckle but that's because of safety reasons, which I actually prefer. You need to squeeze the buckle while pushing the button at the same time. I think there were a few instances where the buckles would unbuckle and the babies fell! I definitely don't mind the two-handed buckle. I tried my friend's Ergo and found it way too bulky on me. I'm 5'5", 118 lbs. I would totally get the Gemini if I could (they didn't have it when I bought the Butterfly) since it gives you the forward face option. BTW, if you do end up getting a Beco, don't buy an all black one! Mine is all black with a gray/white print and it collects link like CRAZY! I don't know about you, but I hate hate hate lint. It makes it look so "dirty", you know what i mean? I drives me crazy! I know you're a neat freak like me so thought I would mention that! :)

@jholler25: @shopaholic: @Andrea: I have the Beco Gemini and it can face out, in or be worn on the back.

I love it!! Yes, the clasps are a little difficult but it's not that hard to reach around. OR you can lean forward to put weight on it and then you can do it with one hand.

@shopaholic - actually yes. Even though the Beco is a carrier that is great for spine/hip development - wearing a baby facing out in ANY carrier for longer than 10 minutes isn't necessarily good for the baby. Also, for a baby younger than 6 months, it can be overstimulating.

I have only every worn my nearly-7 month old son facing out ONCE otherwise he totally doesn't mind facing in because he just looks to the side to see out.

He wouldn't sleep if he was facing out anyway.

Personally, I love the Beco. I don't know enough about any of the other carriers to vote.

BTW - welcome to HB!!

I did not like the Ergo for a tiny baby. We quit using it after trying it several times, because she seemed to hate it. We LOVED our ring sling for every day use until she was about 5 months old. We still use that (at 8 months) for quick trips into stores. It lives in the back of my car now. For longer walks we have a babyhawk that I LOVE also. I'm thinking of bringing the Ergo back out again to see if she likes it any more now that she's bigger.

@C.Sassy - Thant's one of my concerns! I will definitely have to check out the Beco.

And mostly I think I will want to use the carrier up to about 6 -7 months. Beyond that I think he/she might be too heavy! I mean, judging by some of my friends & family's kids - they seem pretty heavy by then! lol

I'm the same size as you and the Ergo never fit me correctly. It just seemed a bit overwhelming. I got the Beco Butterfly II and I love it so much more than the Ergo!

We have an Ergo. I did not like it at all when she was littler but I really like it now that she is older/bigger.
