I hope you feel better soon! LO caught a virus over President's Day weekend, then Dad caught it, and then I got it (plus mastitis and an eye infection). I was out of work for two weeks because of it, plus mine morphed into a wicked sinus infection. Now she has a cold, and I am doing my level best to not catch it.

This was us last year...we were constantly at the doctors office, it was insane. This year, knock on wood, hasn't been bad at all. We've had a cold and that's it..but I am thinking we might be en route to an ear infection right now.

@Bookish: Hope you feel better soon. Stomach bugs are the worst! We had a similar thing happen at our daycare last week. I think LO got a very mild version and then I got the not-so-mild version. The other kids were dropping out like flies and it got so bad that they actually closed our daycare for a day to do a deep clean. I have no idea how many people were affected but one day when I went to pick up LO, there were literally 2 kids there (there are usually over a dozen between the infants and toddlers). Yuck.

Tuesday night LO came down with a nasty, but luckily short lived stomach flu. In the morning I got on FB and on our daycare's page, there was a post saying something was going around. Tuesday morning there were 3 babies in her room affected, and by Wednesday it was up to 4 babies in her room, 2 teachers, 1 parent, and 2 babies in other rooms.

Then last night DH and I started throwing up literally within minutes of each other. We've had a pretty miserable night, and I'm calling in backup tomorrow to help take care of LO.

Have you had a bad virus spread through your daycare? Did you catch it? I think the latest tally at our daycare is 6 babies, 7 adults.

Blegh!

I had that and it's back to normal now without doing anything-6 wks post csection. And no pot belly! Around 30 weeks I really started watching how I sat up.... ie a carefully executed side roll and elbow prop up. And got a Gabriela support belt for walking and picking things up (grocery bags, etc).

I have diastasis recti, looks like a mountain peak on my belly when I tighten my abs to sit up from laying down or lift my legs while lying down. My OB said that it is normal and usually goes back to normal after pregnancy, but I know that some people have issues and it needs to be put back together with surgery - hopefully that's not the case! I've also heard, like pp said, to not do ab exercises (other than ones where you are pulling your abs to your spine, like "sucking in" since that doesn't affect it) as it can exacerbate it.

I have this and it's just like you describe - several inches wide from belly button to sternum!

I've talked to my OB, my doula and my trainer about this... their only suggestion for while I'm still pregnant is not to use my abs at all. So, for example, when I need to sit up in bed, I roll to one side and then push myself up with my arms. I'd already cut out any and all dedicated ab work from my exercise routine after the first trimester per my trainer's instruction (long before this became a problem). And my OB suggested a support band too - she said it wouldn't exacerbate the problem and might help it from getting worse. The one she suggested looks like this: http://trulife.com/all-products/orthotics/spinal/maternity-belts/embrace-ultimate-support-maternity-belt.

Anyway, for now I'm just hanging out with a huge gap in my abs, hoping that after I give birth it will close. I know it won't happen immediately and I'd be willing work with a physical therapist to help it close if I can find someone in my area who specializes in this kind of thing. But that's several weeks/months off as I'm only 34 weeks right now.

What did your stomach feel like towards the end of pregnancy? I noticed last night when I try to sit up in bed that the whole middle of my stomach, from just under my bra to my belly button, bulges in a big vertical weird thing. I hadn't noticed it up until yesterday, and I'm just wondering if it's normal. 0_0 It scared the heck out of DH when I had him put his hand on it

! It doesn't really hurt, other than the aches I've been having in that area, but it's definitely weird and bulgy and noticeable! All I'm reading on the internet says diastasis is smaller, usually only centimeters or an inch, and this is like several inches, so it has me pretty curious as to what it could be!

Did any of you ladies experience stomach problems soon before labor? I've had heartburn for months, but it went away when the baby finally dropped.

I've been up all night with crazy acid burps and diarrhea and just over all discomfort. I took some Zantac, which helped me sleep, but I'm wondering if this all means I'm close? I'm 36 weeks and one day as of today. :)

I've had bleeding ulcers before - it took me years to figure out exactly what was going on. In college I kept having gnawing pains and got a barium x-ray, then a few years later the pain got a lot worse and an endoscopy confirmed the ulcers. In my case it wasn't h.pylori but the fact that the doctors at student health kept prescribing ibuprofen for my migraines and it finally ate away at my stomach lining. So I'm not allowed to have NSAIDs anymore. I went on Nexium for a while and it never came back!

Let me tell you why you SHOULD get this checked out - a few years ago my friend kept asking me if I thought her heartburn and pain might be more serious, and I kept telling her this story. One day she suddenly went into septic shock from meningitis and came very very close to dying. It turned out she did have ulcers, and they enabled the meningitis bacteria to cross over into her bloodstream very quickly.

I had one a couple of years ago and was put on some pretty intense medications. Made me sick as a dog, but it healed the ulcer. You need to get it checked out because it could get worse and bleed or perforate. Plus if it's one caused by H. pylori, you really should get that treated because it's very contagious.
