Your play room is gorgeous!

I have two solution options that both involve a trip to Ikea!

We have a Kallax with the cloth bins inside, but they are huge and better for storing larger toys versus toys with a lot of parts. I LOVE this hack posted here, might look into that!

We also have 2 Ikea Trofast systems hung on the wall at kid height for smaller stuff/art supplies:
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79898306/

And in our living room (playroom is on 3rd floor) we have this Ikea cart (but with mesh baskets) for blocks and stuff, and the top could be a surface for art projects:
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89276175/

@yellowbeach: that room is awesome, despite the toy clutter ;)

I think the suggestions above are great... I have been struggling with toy storage in our main living room, since we don't have a separate playroom, and finally just bit the bullet to have a 9 foot built in cabinet built along one wall - cabinets all along the base, some open shelving on top and an open area in the middle for our TV. I'm pretty psyched about it - but I've been saving to do it for a while. I was going to DIY it myself using Ikea pieces and them trimming it all in to look built it, but I ended up getting a quote not much more than all of those parts and pieces and I don't have to build it myself! Score! Can't wait to hide some of the toys and try to organize.

To @Littlebit7: point about doors- we did an Ikea hack of the PBK Cameron system (https://www.potterybarnkids.com/m/products/cameron-6-cubby-and-3-drawer-base-set/?cm_cat=ShopStyle%20Inc.&irgwc=1&cm_ite=Std&cm_ven=AfShopPromo&bnrid=3517500&cm_src=PIPRecentView&cm_pla=IR)

the 4x4 kallax is mounted securely on top of two ikea kitchen cabinets- the deeper ones that are meant to go above a refrigerator. We put kid proof latches on the doors instead of knobs so we can store things we don't want them to access. And since the base is much deeper than the kallax, it's impossible to tip it over (both DH and I have tried). We did secure it to the wall just in case since now the kids play in the upstairs playroom alone, but it's sturdy. And you could do it smaller with a smaller kallax.

This is ours in our old condo.

ETA: it’s huge 😂

My go to is cube shelves, like the IKEA Kallax. We have a big 4x4 one in our playroom. But with that height I would probably want to make sure it was anchored securely and it sounds like that could be an issue. a 2x4 cube unit would work though. I have been working on different size bins for different size toys in ours. It holds a ton but as my kids get bigger, their toys get smaller with more parts, so the big drona bins from ikea aren't as well suit for small things.

Target has really good deals on their Threshhold cube storage right now. I got a 2x3 one for my 5 year olds room last week actually. FWIW it's a little cheaper than the Ikea one and feels a little cheaper than the Ikea one.

I’ve been struggling to find the best solution to get our playroom (AKA my former dining room) organized and tidy. The room is roughly 10’ x 10’ so not huge. I’d like to use some of the vertical space to help store things, but everything designed for this seems to stay at kid height (3-4’). To complicate matters, under that wallpaper is 100 year old plaster, not drywall, making it extremely difficult to mount shelves. Any and all suggestions appreciated! 🎨 ⚽️🎪🧩🎹🚗🎀🧸

@looch: Good tip about the paintbrush ones; I’ll look for those! DS is almost 2 so we have a bit before he gets real ones 😂

@wrkbrk: He's almost 7 now, but he's had them without supervision since he turned 4. Since he was 2, I would buy the light colored versions (there's a set that is neon colors or something and they don't stain as badly as the bold and classic sets) and he could have them in the kitchen, when he was sitting down. We have an old formica table that I can clean with a magic eraser, so I figured that was a good place for art (markers and paint).

There's a set of color wonder markers that look like paintbrushes, those were a bit better than the traditional markers. I was disappointed in the finger paint, they're clear gel and don't spread that well.

@looch: They do have a delay. My son doesn’t love then either really. How old is your son with the regular crayola markers??
