No real advice, since we're in the same boat. Sippy cups only with water. Daycare took him off bottles cold turkey, and he went on a milk strike for about 2 weeks. {We supplemented with lots of yogurt, cheese, and water.} Eventually he got on board when he noticed that his BFF was drinking from the same cup.

He still gets a morning and bedtime bottle at home though because he will not drink milk from anything else {and I'm a lazy coward}. He's 13 months now and I know I need to go cold turkey at home and deal with it....or have his daycare BFF come live with us.

@MrsRcCar: maybe he has associated his sippy to water? What about getting a different kind for his milk? I would just keep offering throughout the day on top of his regular bottles until he gets the hang of it.
When we just bottle wean her milk intake slowed down for a bit but then it picked right back up. After a year when they are eating more solids I became less concerned with milk intake. So long as he's taking in water and fruits with water content I'm sure he'll be fine.

@locavore_mama: The problem we are having with straw cups is he is chewing on the straw instead of drinking from it.....Nuk sippy cup. It is the only one he will take. We have tried a few different ones

We dropped bottle cold turkey. I introduced a sippy cup and night before bed and then gradually dropped that.

We introduced a straw cup at around 7 months primarily for water. We would occasionally do very diluted juice. When we started to bottle wean we started sending her straw cup to daycare then asking them to give her milk once in the straw cup and once in a bottle. Eventually we transitioned completely out of bottles.

What kind of sippy is your LO using? Maybe he doesn't like it?

@hellobeeboston: LO got pretty good with a open cup early on. I would say by 16 months we were primarily open cup. But she has always used a open cup off and on. Around 14/15 months I started really working on it with her because daycare said in the toddler room it's all open cups,. Turns out most kids are still using their bottles and LO is one of few using only open cups successfully!!!

No suggestions - we are in the same boat -- I'm curious to see others recommendations. LO is not into any of the sippy or straw cups. I am thinking of just going to a regular cup, but he is still so little.

@MrsF: I am glad I am not alone. My mum just said keep trying. I lost my bottle and pacifer at 15 months old overnight because I refused to give them up other wise.

We're right in the middle of this exact problem at 12 months. M will drink a little milk out of a straw cup but then makes a face like she's disgusted and stops. I've been considering stopping the bottles cold-turkey but she was sick last week so I didn't want to mess with things. I hope other bees have some wisdom for both of us... Subscribing!

N is 12 months old and will take water from his sippy cup but will not take anything else in his sippy cup. He will only drink his formula/soy milk out of his bottle. I would like to reduce the number of bottles he gets during the day and move him to mostly a sippy cup. However I am concerned about his fluid intake.

How did you move your LO from bottle to cup? How old were they?
