@Chillybear: that is such a great idea. I never would have thought of using our bumgeniuses without the insert. We probably won't use a full pool this summer but I do want to buy a tiny pool for our yard and now definitely plan on doing this instead I buying something new, so thanks for the idea!!

We have used always used a happy nappy, not sure if there is a U.S. equivalent? http://www.splashabout.com/baby-swimwear/happy-nappy-products It's basically a neoprene nappy with tight cuffs at the waist and legs to hold in any contents! Although weirdly, DS has never once put it to the poo test in over 14 months of swimming!

I use a reusable swim diaper by AMP.

https://www.ampdiapers.com/swim-diapers

I used them with my first daughter and she never actually had a poop in them while swimming. With my new daughter I used it when she was about 2 months old and she did poop in it. Even though it's only the mesh, it contained it all. I like them and they fit really well, even for a small baby.

Following. We're taking lo on a beach/pool vacation at 3.5+ months and she will be ebf and in cloth diapers. I bought her a swim diaper but not sure it can contain runny ebf poop. Also, I read infants shouldn't really go in the water since they have trouble regulating temperature and can get too cold?

This is what my Dr said about pools in case someone comes across this in the future, and for your piece of mind @littlejoy

There have been some studies that connect early childhood exposure to chlorinated pools to development of asthma. Generally speaking, it is probably fine to take the baby into pools for short periods of time. When you have the choice, pools treated with bromide or salt are preferred, but they are hard to find. Ideally, when you take the baby into chlorinated pools, opting for outdoor or well-ventilated pools are ideal. If the pool is not outdoors or in a well-ventilated area (the chlorine smell will be very strong), then limiting the exposure to no more than 30 minutes at a time is a good idea. Also be sure to give the baby a good wash after the pool to rinse off residual chlorine.

Definitely not an expert on this subject but I might try a trial run at home first - like put on the swim diaper with a regular over it and then after #2 check to see if anything leaked out of the swim diaper into the other.

@LAZB: Awesome thanks! I got an Applecheeks swim diaper but there is no way it would hold anything but a solid poo, it's just 2 pieces of mesh- but it works for up to 20ish lbs so I'm sure we will get some use out of it eventually.

@travelingnanny: awesome thanks! Do you use the insert?

@Chillybear: Yeah I was thinking realistically she will not be submerged so for this month a regular diaper may work just fine.

At my parents house I'm less worried about a poo accident, it's easy enough to treat- I just have visions of shutting down a pool or something.

I've definitely heard of people just using a BG 4.0 without the inserts as a swim diaper.

Honestly though your LO probably wont be in the water much, even at 9 months my daughter hated being in the pool (most water temps are too cold) but she loved being around the pool. We kept her in a reg diaper unless she was actually in the water, since swim diapers dont hold pee so if i was holding her i would end up drenched in pee.

I found a tiny one at Milagros in NE. Let me see if it's her size, and you can borrow. It always worked for Al in the backyard pool. "Panic Mom" in me thinks that 3 months is too young to put a baby in chlorine water -- a baby swim class might have different levels of chemicals in the water vs. a hotel?

T is 3 months and ebf- which means thin runny poo. We are going to be at hotels 2 different times this month that have pools and my parents have a pool. I got a great deal on disposable swim diapers at Costco since I knew we would be getting a lot of pool time this summer- but they say they start at 16 lbs- the babe is only 13.

I really want to take her in the pool before she starts solids- but I'm worried nothing will contain the poo. Any experience? Should I just skip it? Double up with a disposable and one of my BG 4.0 shells?

I feel like there are places like the Y and those baby water survival classes that let tiny babes in the pool. I just can't find much online on this subject. Thanks!

In fact I was talking to LO's daycare teacher who said that I should bring swim diapers for when they do sprinkler time and I think she didn't realize those diapers don't hold pee and are meant to not weigh babies down when they are immersed in water.
