Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I feel bad that I submerged his ears now so I'll be going and getting some earplugs for swimming lessons and I'll try the drops to see if they help. Thanks

Hi, I'm an audiologist... I second pretty much everything above. Eardrops 50/50 white vinegar and rubbing alcohol, earplugs with or without a "Bandit". A company called "Doc's Plugs" makes a good pair of earplugs for keeping water out (you would want the non-vented kind). Note that you do NOT want to use non-prescription eardrops if your kid has ear tubes. For that situation, talk to your ENT! Good luck!

Our pediatrician recommends a solution of 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 white vinegar. We're in the midst of swimming lessons, so we apply a few drop after every session. Kind of funny, but our vet recommended that same solution for our (now deceased) dog because she frequently got ear infections from swimming so much.

I have seen toddlers at swim lessons wearing ear plugs, and one tiny toddler wears an ear band, something like this

They make drops for swimmers use that we have used - it does smell like alcohol so I wonder if that's what it is?

I second the rubbing alcohol, we did it every time after swimming because I would get such horrible swimmers ear.

Not sure how young you can do this but my mom used to put a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol in our ears after swimming if there was water in them. But that's when we were old enough to tell her.

My LO went swimming last weekend & had a lot of fun. He let me lie him on his back in the water ( ears submerged) & practiced blowing bubbles. Now I've been worried since because I use to get terrible swimmers ear as a child! So I wasn't too suprised when I saw him he tugging at his ears last night and I think they're starting to bother him :( any suggestions or recommendations?
How do you prevent swimmers ear in toddlers? Thanks you!
