I love Paprika for grocery lists, meal planning, and storing recipes. It costs money, but it's a very low amount, like a few dollars. Worth it!

Todoist
A lot of the same things as @Hypatia: lists, lists, and more lists.
My husband and I have ours synced so I can add items and they will show up on his list. It's the best way to keep running lists of household tasks, shopping lists, packing lists, etc. It even syncs with Alexa so we can tell Alexa "Add _____ to the shopping list."
Some cool things we have used it for: a list of questions to ask the pediatrician at our next well-check, a list of restaurants that our kids like to eat at, an always up-to-date list of our kids current sizes in clothing, shoes, different brands, etc.

Things 3. It’s a beautiful, intuitive, and highly customizable way to keep track of everything from my daily schedule with repeating tasks, daily to dos, life goals, books I want to read, etc. I can send copies of emails directly from my inbox to it as a task (think bill notices). I have projects that include packing lists and shopping lists. It’s basically my life. I put deadlines on certain tasks and they show up in my daily Today view automatically. It integrates with my calendar. Big thumbs up from me.

Just for fun and curiosity*, what's your favorite phone app that you love/can't live without/always suggest to people?

Mine is Marco Polo. We LOVE this app and use it constantly to keep in touch with family. It's so convenient to send grandparents a quick video of my son doing something cute without them having to answer a Facetime call right then if they're busy, and it lets them feel like they're missing less by not living closer to us.

*And inspired by GotKimchi's latest post. :)

I'm big on podcasts and audiobooks. If I had a long day and I'm tired, I veer toward working mom podcasts. If I'm energized, I veer toward motivational productivity/leadership podcasts.

@codeitall: this isn’t the same as journaling really, but I started keeping little quotes/memories of my kids on an app in my phone. My goal is to someday put all of those memories and pics into a photo book type thing. You know, some day when I have time in 2042 😆 Better than nothing!

I have about 25 mins between daycare and work in the morning. And then 15 minutes home in the evening. I do a variety of productive and zoning-out things depending on how I feel and what I need to do:
- get a dose of world news/public radio
- audiobooks rarely except for longer work travel
- call my sister or best friend (usually this is on the drive home and these are close people who are okay with a short catch up session)
- work calls and sometimes conference calls that I end up finishing at the office in the morning
- make appts (dentist, vet, hair, car, etc.) I hate the hassle of making appts. And it’s something you can really only do during business hours. So this is one of those chores that feels good to get out of the way while I am my own captive audience.

I consider my commute time, ME TIME... I'm in the car an hour each way, sometimes more :(

When I used to take the train I loved to read, so now I listen to audiobooks the majority of the time (Free on Overdrive or Libby through your library). In between audiobooks I have a bunch of podcasts I like. I also sometimes just want to listen to music, although I do that almost all day long while I work.

I also use my drive-time as a time to talk on the phone with friends and family!

I spend about 25 minutes in the car to and from work without my kids. Some days I can take the train and get some work and meal planning in, but when I drive, the most I manage is to listen to NPR or some classical music.

I'd love to be able to do some vocal journaling for my kids. I'm terrible at actually writing anything down and I remember being fascinated when I found my mom's high school notebook and wishing she had some when she met my dad and when I was born. Maybe I just need a voice recording app because I'm not finding what I want in Google Play.

Any tips? What do you do to make your commutes useful?

I have a third hand IPad that went from my husband's aunt to my MIL to me. We are locked out. I figured out how to do a factory reset, but the activation lock is still on. I need the apple ID and password of the original owner, but MIL doesn't know it, and I am barely speaking to her anyway, and she is not currently speaking to her sister (the original owner). Bottom line is, I need a device other than my iphone that my son can play Minecraft on, and I have this perfectly good IPad sitting here that I can't use, and I need a miracle. Can anyone help?

@Mama Bird: well, I can do simple math and a lot of it is memorized. Ask me to multiply 35 by 7, for example and I can't do it without writing it down. Then, I work myself up and make computation errors.

All I am saying is, tools could have been used to build my confidence as a child, rather than forcing me to use visuals that didn't work for me. It is a mistake I hope doesn't happen to my son.

@Torchwood: Visual learners often excel using digital learning! If its done properly, students that have different learning styles can choose how to best select technology to learn the lesson. A visual learner could use a digital camera to capture real examples or a design program to do a brochure, all examples much better than just reading text!

I think there's a place for both electronic and traditional implements in a classroom.

I struggled with math as a child, because I can't visualize in my head, which then in turn makes me nervous and then I can't even add a row of numbers together without making a computation error. Had I had access to Excel, I would have been able to get those numbers summed and focus on the larger problem.

I think any time there is a big leap in technology, people dig in their heels and try to resist it. I just try not to be a bleeding edger and wait for a stable platform and then make my judgements.
