@Clementine12: My first was a late teether, and he could eat almost anything with minimal teeth. As mentioned above, the teeth are in the gums, so the gums are pretty hard. The front teeth are only for biting into things, and I cut everything into small pieces because of choking concerns (I would have even with more teeth). Late teethers do tend to lose their teeth late. It is actually better for the teeth to come in late - less opportunity for cavities.

Both of my LOs were late teethers. My DS got his 1st tooth a week before his birthday. My DD got 2 teeth around 10 months. Both of them only had about 8 teeth by 18 months. Dentists were never concerned. Now, my son is 7, and has still only lost 1 tooth, whereas most of his peers have lost many!

DS is on the slow end with his teeth. He just turned 2 and currently has 12 (still needs all canines and two-year molars). He did not get his first two until 10 months.

He went to the dentist at 15 months with only six teeth and the dentist said it's normal for some children to be a little slower. I know I was the same way (got my first teeth at 12 months).

Our experience was very similar to yours so far! First two at 9 months, then nothing til 13 months. Then she got all the rest through 1-yr molars between 13-17 months. It was kind of crazy. She's now 25 months and just got both of her bottom 2-yr molars.

And we also have a 6-month old with no teeth yet. :)

My first was on a fast track and she definitely pretty had most teeth at her 18 month dentist appointment.

My 2nd was much slow like yours. At 17 mo she is def still teething and working on molars. We are not taking her to the dentist at 18 mo cuz she just doesn't have that many teeth! Prob will take her at 2 along with her sister's bi-annual check up.

@Clementine12: kids can eat a lot more than you think without teeth! Our pediatrician told us as long as you can mash it between your thumb and forefinger they can eat it. The teeth are right under the gums so the gums are pretty hard and can be used for chewing.

My child is part shark and had 4 teeth at 4 months, and something like 14 or 18 at 1 year. My friend's kid didn't get his first 2 until 10 months or something like that and was slow going getting more, but it hasn't caused any problems for him.

My daughter got her first two teeth in January, at 8ish months. She's almost 13 months now and despite a few miserable days where I really thought the next teeth were imminent - nada. I can't see tooth buds when I look at her gums (but it's hard to get a good look!) The doc seemed surprised at this at her 1 yr appt.

What did your kid's teeth-growing schedule look like?

Hi!

My 9 month old has a raspy voice and is drooling. He just had his check up and went great. Doc said more teeth is coming through. At that time, he did not have a raspy voice. I noticed on Saturday the change. Is this something to worry about or normal for teething? TIA

Kind of. For us, it Wasn't at all comparable to initial sleep training... but there have been bouts where he's cried more at bedtime or naptime and typically they correlate with not feeling well or getting over something.

Posted another thread on this just now and tried to tag you, but another bee alerted me that you wouldn't see it. Anyway, did you end up having to re-train? Or any tips would be much appreciated!

@MamaCate: Intersting article! Our pediatrician recently told me there's no evidence that teething causes night wakings or even pain.

I have to say that with our first, the only time I think teething actually caused pain was molars. He legit stopped eating for a week and randomly woke at night for a week and then stopped once they were through.
