I have a thermometer for my 7 month old and I can't find the probe covers for it... It isn't the one with a long tip, is has a short tip and the standard covers don't fit and are too big... Any idea where I can find them?

@amreis: Hmmm, I wonder if you could take your thermometer to a place that replaces watch batteries. They would probably have the battery and the tools to do it. It might be less strange or embarrassing than you think. How many people would actually know that it's not a standard thermometer?

This thread makes me think it might be a good idea to go out and get a spare battery just to have one on hand for when mine starts to go!

@ineebee: I did have that reading before, but some other things clued me into the battery going bad. It's been taking a lot longer to get a reading, and believe me, in the morning when you have to pee, every second counts! It also would shut off in the middle of taking my temp, and sometimes the beep would have a weird sound. Battery is the only thing I can think of other than a completely defective thermometer.

@doxielove: I'm going to try a new battery first. Much more cost-effective than buying a new thermometer! Now I just have to find an eyeglass repair kit with a screwdriver small enough to unscrew the battery from inside the thermometer!

One week in, I thought my battery was dying because sometimes it read "Lo." Turns out it just meant that it's detecting a temperature that's lower than its normal range. Could this apply to your situation?

@amreis: I've had the same BBT for a year now (Target brand). Ever since I bought it it's said low battery. It does tend to have favorite temps, too. I think it's defective. But, it gets the job done (I see a thermal shift). I'd recommend getting a replacement battery just in case - see if that helps. That't just the cheapo in me (I refuse to spend money on a new thermometer!)

4 weeks does seem like a short life. Mine wore out probably after 3 months, I think? I thought that was fast, but then I realized I do use it every single day.

I've been charting for just under 4 weeks now, and my battery is already telling me it's low and isn't giving accurate readings back-to-back. Is this normal? I'm not sure if I got a dud battery, accidentally left the thermometer on and drained it (although I thought it would time out...), or if I should stock up on teeny batteries.

Anyone else with this problem?

the braun ear thermometer has been pretty accurate for us. one time i took rectal and ear, and they were the same. the forehead one we used to have had a lot of room for user error.

Anyone have suggestions on good baby thermometers? Preferably non-rectal since we already have one of those. I'm looking for forehead or ear? I've scoured Amazon but non seem to have great ratings!
