It persists even while I'm not nursing and feels sore when I (or my shirt) touch it. My son has a white tongue, but he always has and I figured it was just milk residue. No white in the cheeks or on the gums. Can you have thrush pain on only one side? I would think it would be on both since he eats equally from both sides, but maybe it's just starting? Anyone experience this? I haven't had any pain breastfeeding since the very first few days, so it's weird that it's popping up again now (my son is 6.5 weeks). We used a cotton ball to hold the medicine on her tongue. I started with some of the medicine on the cotton ball, then just let out the medicine onto the ball as she sucked on it. I had it really bad and three rounds of difluclan reduced it but didn't eliminate it. I gave my baby nystatin, which seemed to work for her, though she didn't have it bad. Baby with white tongue but sharp shooting. Lac agreed probably not thrush. I did some vinegar wipe down of my breast and made sure to wash bras daily with vinegar to kill any potential yeast. The LC who diagnosed him told me that if the nipple is being drawn back far enough into the mouth, the friction should clean the milk residue off the tongue. Yes, with LO1, the ped prescribed Nystatin and my OB prescribed Diflucan for me. We just never really figured out if LO really had it or not. I did have really painful shooting pains and cracked nipples with LO1, which I was sure was thrush. This time I don't have any of that, just a random shooting pain in one breast when I'm not feeding. I used GSE last time, but never the Gentian Violet. I didn't realize that helped with pain?
