Usually, I don't have to say anything about a lap infant until I check in at the airport. I think I've had to say something when booking a ticket once.

If they don't have a box to check for "infant on lap", only book your ticket and then call the airlines after and tell them your infant will be flying on your lap. No added charge, but they will need to know your LO's name.

I have bought two tickets for lo to be a "lap infant" just like you describe and both times i bought my ticket online just for me, then called the airline later and added baby. This seems to be the way it works to include baby on the reservation but not buy them a seat. Hope that helps!

We've only flown Delta with my LO.
We buy tickets for ourselves only. And there's an option for special services (or something). Infant in lap is one of the options.

I am trying to book a flight on Allegiant Air for DH, myself and LO and I am a bit confused. If I put her in under children it charges another $80. and it prompts me to pick a seat for her. It isn't making much sense to me because for a full roundtrip ticket for each of us it is $195. So if you purchase a seat for an infant it costs less? What I was planning on doing is holding her on my lap, so does that mean I do not even put her in when booking the ticket? That just doesnt seem right to me, but I am not sure.
