@looch: Thanks so much for this. It sounds like opening the conversation early might be the way to go.

I worried about how much she could actually understand at 21 months, but I wound up emailing the director and she suggested having a calendar and marking down the days together, talking regularly, and even throwing a party for her the night before open house. I'm hopeful that she'll adjust quickly!

I meant to reply, I had a similar situation, except that my son was a bit older. To give you some background:
We began daycare at age 2. He stayed there for a year, but never full time, he was there at most 6 hours per day.

We transitioned him to a nature based preschool camp a year later. Since we had about a month between the end of day care and the beginning of camp, he stayed at home with my parents. He did great that month.

Then came time for camp, and the transition was also great. He went, my mom handles drop off and pick up. We have had some bumps along the way, but that is mostly due to things like changes in staff and the actual classes. We talked a lot about the transition, we had a teacher from the new school visit us at home, we visited the new place a few times before we went there officially, that sort of thing.

Desperate bump for advice! I'm irrationally worried, but that's what parenting is all about, right? :silly:

My daughter (21 months) is scheduled to start a part-time preschool at a church at the end of August, with Grandma taking care of her the rest of the day. She currently attends a full time daycare and LOVES her teacher, but her last day is August 7. During the transition, she'll be with Grandma all day.

That's a lot of transitions! I'm so worried about her adjusting. Does anyone have any tips to make it go more smoothly? I'm also interested in books on the subject to read to her.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

We probably dropped using ours sometime around 8 weeks or so. (or maybe earlier?) I was also a little worried that she wouldn't sleep as well, but it was fine. She was already getting too tall for the newborn napper, so we had to switch her out of it.

We dropped the napper attachment pretty early, I think before seven weeks, and didn't notice any difference in her sleep. She was sleeping swaddled at the time. She started to sort of scrunch to the bottom of the napper because of the shape, so that's when we switched her.

We switched to the PNP at bassinet height, and are still using that at four months.

LO is almost 7 weeks old, and she's been sleeping in the newborn napper attachment on the Pack N Play for a few weeks now (since we stopped co-sleeping).

I'm wondering when to transition her to the regular Pack N Play mattress (at 'bassinet' height), and whether anyone has experience with this.

Was it a big change for your LO, going from tightly held to wide open spaces? She's swaddled every night, but I don't know how much of a difference it will make. Any thoughts?
