We use the Munchkin Arm&Hammer one and have been happy with it. It has been stuffed full of some seriously funky solids diapers and the room still doesn't smell.

You've all given me so much to think about.

@Sweet T: Good point about not going through as many diapers later. Right now, we're still at anywhere from 10-15 a day! I'm also home all day on leave and am hypervigilant about checking his diaper.

@TurtleDoves: Will have to look at this one. Like that it would take regular bags.

Ack, what to do, what to do? Will figure something out. The other problem is that we have a tiny space to put it in, so size is definitely a factor.

We just used a regular trashcan with a lid. I would recommend getting a smaller, bathroom size though. Now that DS is older and going through less diapers per day, we don't even use the trash can in his room for diapers. It doesn't get filled fast enough and it will start to smell.

@pregnantbee: We were super anti-diaper pail at first, but man, we couldn't live without our diaper genie! Our house smells great, the pail really locks in the odor. And it holds SO many! It is definitely worth the extra $ to me.

@pregnantbee: we have a diaper pail that takes regular trash bags!

It's the "First Years" odor-free disposal system and basically it is battery operated and takes the diaper, wraps the bag around it, and filters fresh air through to stop the diapers from stinking the place up.
The entire reason I got it is because it takes normal trash bags. I just plan on buying super cheap trash bags for it and not using my pricey "Hefty" trash bags anyways.
It's like $32bucks..

We also do the lidded trash can with foot pedal and tape a Munchkin Arm & Hammer Air Freshener that I bought from Target. We change the trash every 4 days or so and it hasn't smelled yet, though I'm exclusively breastfeeding so usually those dirty diapers don't smell as bad :) We'll probably change the trash more often when he starts on formula and/or solids.

I can't vouch for it yet, but we registered for a Diaper Dekor after reading great reviews and seeing the recommendation in Baby Bargains. It seems like a better long-term investment than just a trash can.

We have a diaper champ and I really like it. There is absolutely no smell and it uses regular kitchen sized trash bags. Capacity is good too, empty every other day or so with twins.

My SIL uses a diaper genie and I would not recommend.

We use a lidded trash can with a foot pedal and an air freshener taped to the underside of the lid.

Hi everyone. We were going to cloth diaper and only use disposables in the beginning. Because of this, we never purchased any kind of diaper pail for the nursery and have just been throwing them out in the kitchen trash can. We've since decided to only use disposables, and I'm wondering if a diaper pail is worth it? Or is a lidded trash can just as good? We'd probably empty the trash every couple days, and I'd prefer to be able to use any trash bags, rather than purchase special ones just for a pail. Thoughts? Thanks.
