I agree with SNOWJEWLZ, there is a ton of walking! We told people to walk before they came to build up their stamina but no one did and they were all exhausted. It probably didn't help that our flat was up 4 flights of steep steps with no elevator.

We are in the middle of a trip to Paris without LO (17 months) and it’s gone way better than I could have hoped. I think he’s having way too much fun with his grandparents to miss us. We also left him for 4 days when he was 11.5 months and that went great too. He’s continuing going to daycare so his routine isn’t too disrupted.

If it’s your first trip to London, I would do the major touristy stuff...Tower of London, Windsor Castle, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s. I also really enjoyed Churchill’s War Rooms. Also Harrod’s!

Agree with others about copies of passports, pediatrician/insurance info, etc. I also typed up a probably too detailed set of instructions for his daily routine and daycare process, as well as contact numbers...who knows if it was ever read, but it made me feel better

I did all the touristy things in London but be prepared b/c it's a ton of walking! If you aren't as into that, I would've wanted to take a quick trip out to the Stonehenge. Loved doing hi-tea (I was at the Orangey). I mainly did all the touristy stuff b/c I knew it wasn't likely that I'd go back for another visit.

It really depends on how long you have. We lived in London for 6 months and I loved going to Kensington Palace and the Tower of London, we always took people to both when they visited. You can get a pass that includes those and Hampton Court, which was great, too. What do you like to do? There is lots of free things you can do like walking Hyde Park, I think a lot of the museums are free (the British museum is spectacular). We did the London eye but I don't know if it is a must.

I leave insurance cards (or at least copies) and make sure the caregivers are listed on the doctor form that allows them to bring your child in for treatment. When we leave the country, we have also printed one of those 'permission to treat' forms off the internet that we left at home with the insurance cards. Probably not necessary but it made me feel better while we were gone.

Hi all,

We are traveling to London for just a few days! I know a short trip but it’s a short flight so we can always go back!

I am just wondering if any of you have tips/suggestions for me because LO will be home with gma and aunt. Gma takes care of him during the day when I work so he’s comfortable.

We’ve traveled without him before when he was 3 months old. He will be 11 months when we leave for this trip.

Also, anyone been to London? Suggestions for a quick trip, restaurants? safety etc?

Anything you suggest for baby tips? I usually type up emergency numbers, copies of passports, rules etc...

Thanks!

A few recommendations: Iceland, Barcelona (stay at the Hotel Colon across from the Barcelona Cathedral and get a cathedral view room-- it was amazing), Copenhagen (the Admiral hotel in the Nyhavn district, I'd go back in a heartbeat!).

I wasn't a huge fan of London, but we spent three days in nearby Salisbury and I fell in love with England there. The cathedral to see the Magna Carta and of course Stonehenge topped our list, and if we had more time I would've gone to Bath as well. If you end up in Salisbury, stay at the Rose and Crown. It's the cutest B&B right on the river Avon.

I want to get back to Europe so bad. Enjoy!!!

@cake2017: Sorry, no recommendations for hotels, especially 4/5 star. We love to travel for sites/experiences/food, so hotel does not get much attention from me. We usually aim for 2/3 star - clean, private bath, and central location at roughly 100/night is our guideline. I'm sure Marriott would be lovely! And usually the 4/5 stars are very centrally located so you cant' go wrong.

@PurplePumps: we were underwhelmed by Dublin too and I LOVE Ireland in general. After seeing Paris and London, we took a flight to Dublin and it felt too small. I want to take DS to London when he is older.

I didn't like where we stayed in London, the heart of SoHo during a bank weekend. It was freakishly packed with people partying all night. My husband stayed in Islington (sp?) once and liked it. Can't vouch for it personally myself.

I would definitely recommend Iceland. Stunning scenery, awesome hot springs, I also loved the horseback riding (not even a horse kind of person, but Icelandic horses are so sweet and the landscapes are amazing). Plus it's a short direct flight from the east coast. After that my favorite is probably the south of France, but slightly more annoying to get to.

We were a little underwhelmed by Ireland and Dublin, but it seems to be just us that wasnt crazy about it. Everyone else seems to love it!
We LOVE London. It's one of our favorite cities, and we've been itching to go back. You could easily do London and Paris in 7-8 days flying into one and out of the other and taking the train in between.
I thought Barcelona was very nice and easy to get around. The Gaudi architecture is very interesting and I just loved sitting outdoors at the cafes and just people watching. If you start out in Madrid, you could also check out Toledo, Avila, or Salamanca, all very cute old towns.
Switzerland is super beautiful too, especially the Bernese Oberland area. We stayed in Wegnen, and it was just the cutest little town.
If you're looking for more "must see sites", I think London/Paris or Italy... Greece too, but that's a little long flight.
If you're more into natural beauties, Iceland, Switzerland,... and it may be stretching flight time, but Croatia is gorgeous.
Old history, pretty much any European town, but Croatia and surrounding, Italy, Greece.

@cake2017: i went to Barcelona and a nearby beach town in June several years ago. Barcelona was beautiful and so much fun! All the Gaudi architecture. It was not beach weather though so I doubt May would be either but probably great for just a city trip or beach further south. I feel like we really did not need a full week in Barcelona so would tack somewhere else too.
