@yoursilverlining: What is this dry brine you speak of? I will have to google it. This is my first attempt at cooking a real adult meal. :)

We do a fresh, local turkey and dry brine him for a couple of days ahead of thanksgiving. Super juicy, cripsy skin

We got a fresh bird from a local farm two years in a row and we are never getting a frozen bird for thanksgiving again.

But I love turkey so much we still buy frozen so I can get it more than once.

But fresh, local is SO much more juicy and tender. But it is really expensive. My supermarket sells turkey for 29cts a lb before Thanksgiving. Whereas for a fresh bird we're paying about $6/lb. But for once a year it is so worth it. And def brine!

Depends on time. If I have time to thaw (3-4 days), I'll get frozen. If not, get fresh.

I'm a cheapo, so I like to get the cheapest turkey I can get... so frozen it is.

I get a frozen turkey, but splurge and get an organic, free-range frozen turkey. They are smaller, which is great for us because that means we don't have tons of leftover turkey.

We try to get fresh as much as possible. Frozen isn't the end of the world but they generally have stuff to add for preservation.

Most frozen turkeys out there, like butterball, is injected with tons of sodium! So there's that. I'd go with fresh if possible!

In my effort to be a better wife, I am going to cook Thanksgiving this year (we normally get catered from grocery store). So, thoughts on fresh vs. frozen turkey? I need to pre-order the fresh turkey soon, if that's what I go with.
