@katbridg: LOVE to hear positive stories like this!  It's been quite a roller coaster to get to this point and feel just like you described, basically resigned to IVF. Hopefully I will share your same experience! :goodluck:

IUI #3 today went off without a hitch! Had acupuncture before and after and then came home and took a long nap. I'm going to dinner at my MIL's house tonight so will be having some wine and will be thoroughly distracted by my nieces I'm sure, thank goodness. Feeling much more excited and hopeful today than I have the last week but trying not to get my hopes up either... ohh the emotional balance/roller coaster of TTC/infertility! :bummed:

I have been successful on IUI#3 (last chance) for Baby #2 and Baby # 3 (who, incidentally turned out to be Babies #3 & 4  ). Both times I went into the final IUI pretty discouraged (I was also unexplained and had great stats). Both times I was successful, I had basically given up hope and resigned myself to IVF.

This is not great medical advice, but the TWW fell during Christmas and the 4th of July, and I had wine every single night, relaxed, and completely disregarded the fact I was in the TWW.

Wishing you the very best this cycle. Keep the faith in the process, but try not to let it absorb your every thought. GOOD LUCK!!!!

@OurEastAndWest: Just taking time to relax helped at least get me in a good mindset for this to work and then the laying with my feet up the wall every day for 15-20 min just gave me a chance to unwind at the end of my day and relax, who knows if it helped or not.

@snarkybiochemist: Those tips are great!! I haven't really laid there for long right afterwards because I was always going straight to acupuncture, where I was laying for 45 min. I will definitely stay in position after this one though, then to acupuncture, then couch-chilling time that afternoon.

I joked to my husband I was going to play some sort of bow-chicka-bow-wow music during it so the sperm really work for it & think it's a regular time, like 'Let's Get It On' by Marvin Gaye or something hahaha!  :silly:

@OurEastAndWest: I actually listened to relaxing music during the 15 min after my IUI and then came home and ate my reward snack (a stuffed soft pretzel and a milkshake) and then relaxed/slept on the couch. I have no idea if any of this did the trick but it made me feel calmer. Another thing I tried was laying flat on my back with my feet up against the wall for 15-20 min a day in the days surrounding my IUI. This helps improve blood flow in and around the uterus apparently.

@snarkybiochemist: Yes, I've eaten so much pineapple, I should start planting some in our backyard! I usually add it to a smoothie though, cause otherwise the core is hard to handle. Thank you, I'm feeling extra anxious today, which I hate!, so hopefully I can get it out of the way & be hopeful/positive tomorrow! :goodluck:

@misolee: Thank you  I will ask the Nurse Practitioner about doing another on Thursday. I really like her, she's done the first two IUIs as well and was very direct with me- which I kinda asked her for. When we started at the clinic, our RE recommended 3 IUI cycles, so I asked her opinion on going for more and she was like, NOPE. Ha. She explained briefly why but there was definitely no wavering on her side!

@periwinklebee: I know we can ALWAYS improve our diet, this is America after all ha, especially after eating out so much for my birthday!

I went with the slightly crazy option of eating pineapple (including the core) every day for 5 days post IUI. I really hope you have success this round and hopefully you can relax during the procedure.

I dont know if this is an option but my doctor recommended back to back IUI. So we did one two days in a row and then on the 3rd day, he also recommended the good old fashion way to increase the chances.

@periwinklebee: Thank you so much for your tip & your sweet thoughts  My husband is obsessed with Kombucha so I will have to hide it from him so he doesn't drink it all ha. I think my multi-vitamin has good levels of B-Vitamin but I'll double-check that as well. Though I know it's all really out of my hands, it sometimes helps to feel like we have a bit of control I guess, in a situation that we can't control :P

I think you've done everything you can, and I'll be thinking of you  I'm really sorry you are having to deal with all of this.

If you want to do something else (but really, I think at this point you've done what you can!) I would suggest eating a diet rich in B vitamins throughout the TWW, as it can apparently help with having a healthy luteal phase. I liked blue-green algae kombucha, which I've read is one of the richest natural sources of b vitamin - I think it helped my spotting, more than just taking b vitamins.

So tomorrow is my 3rd (& final) round of IUI! We triggered last night and had relations this morning. I am wondering if there are any tips for increasing our success rate for IUI that you have either heard of or done yourself??

I am already going to acupuncture twice a week for infertiltiy, have been since January, & I will be seeing her for a treatment both before AND after the IUI procedure. But other than that, I'm really at a loss on anything I can do to help encourage this one to work! :bummed: We eat a Mediterranean diet, primarily plant-based especially at home, and I'll be doing a berry & spinach smoothie every day with Acai-superfood blend powder & my acupuncture herbs. I know I have read before about McDonald's french fries after an IVF transfer ha, but this is obviously a different situation so didn't know if there was anything similar to that to try or do??

{For just a bit of background- we are completely unexplained infertility. I ovulate on my own & even have ovulation pains on which side the largest follicle is on each month. We started with charting, temping, & OPKs. Progesterone was 13.9 ng/mL on my own & 31.6 ng/mL after Clomid. HSG was clear (actually had to have it done twice due to an air bubble so it's definitely clear), Estradiol was 48, FSH 7.5, AMH 2.37. I don't know the levels but my RE also tested my Vitamin D3 & thyroid levels and came back within the normal range. We also had that one blood test that checks for the 3 main genetic birth defects (can't remember what it's called right now) but that was clear/good/whatever & I met with a genetic counselor who didn't suggest any further blood work was needed from us right now, just based on our family history. My husband's sperm is like crazy good- 255 million before cleaning last IUI cycle & 175 mil after washing! He is 35 & I just turned 33 on Friday. We have done one cycle of Clomid on it's own with my gyno, & this is our third cycle of IUI with Clomid/Ovidrel with monitoring. After this we will have to move on to IVF... & it frankly scares the shit out of me! :meh: }

As I'm writing this out, I guess I am just feeling incredibly out of control with this whole infertility process right now & I just want to know that I did everything that I COULD 'control' to help- if there's anything that can!! Infertility just really eff-ing sucks. :crying:

@LoveHope: yep, unexplained. We probably would have tried 4 IUI's before moving on to IVF because we had only started injectibles on our third round. The first two IUI's were with Clomid. I understand about success rates and moving on to IVF after a certain number of tries. But I think each time you try it's always a shot in the dark, you know? I mean, monitoring helps you be able to learn more about your cycles and timing. But it's really just magic that any of us can conceive at all.

Fingers crossed that third time's the charm for you!

@Ajsmommy: I really didn't want to move to IVF, it's so expensive. My doctor wants me to move to IVF if this IUI doesn't work but I think I may try again. I've heard stories of women having luck with the 4th or even 5th IUI. Fxing for you.

@Misolee: yes, I am being monitored. I'm on Follistim and ovidrel. The last 2 iui's they had be on a really low dose of Follistim and I only produced one follicle each time and progesterone was low. This IUI, they were more aggressive and my nurse said my progesterone was 30 at 4dpiui. She said this cycle looked better than the prior ones.

I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility around the age of 28, did 2 rounds of 2 iUis over a 5 year period (between the 2 rounds got pregnant naturally/unexpectedly and had an ectopic pregnancy). Then got pregnant and had my son at 36 with no intervention 6 months after adopting our daughter. Not sure of your faith, but in my eyes God was at work with me as his plan allowed us to have our daughter which we never would have had if I had been pregnant earlier.
Will be thinking/praying for you and success for you to grow your family.

I had secondary infertility (unexplained) and my first IUI at the RE worked and am holding my 2 month old now.

@LoveHope: are u being monitored? Medication?

So I did clomid at my regular OB and was headed for an IUI. They only monitor on a certain date (can't remember) after taking the medication. I kept explaining that my body tends to ovulate later but they said it didn't matter. So when they checked, the follicles were not big enough, deemed clomid a failure, and I could not do an IUI. After couple of months of this, I switched to a RE and they actually listened. I used Gonal F (lower dosage) and I was monitored way after the recommended "check" date based on what I told them. Based on that, I had a decent sized follicle and did an IUI for two days straight and it worked!

I had unexplained infertility at my first clinic and had 3 failed IUIs. I then switched to another clinic and they finally diagnosed me. I did another 3 IUIs but they were unsuccessful, too. I have 7 month old twins through IVF.
