@mrbee: It actually went really well once we got there (I was a nervous wreck until we finally landed). We had so much fun and spent some much needed, great quality time together. The only downside is learning that DD caught pneumonia while we were gone. But my mom got her to the doctor and on medication quickly, so she was feeling a little better by the time we got home.

@lemondrop: Thank you!

I love the video idea!!! If you have time you could also do a photo storybook with pictures of you, DH and your LO that can be read to her while you're away. :)

Maybe it would be easier to get through filming a quick video if you read her a favorite book and then tack on some sentimental words. For the families I have nannied for I loved when they would do this because occasionally there are times when kids are just extra grumpy and it helps them to watch their special movie.

@mrbee: Oh I love that idea! I think I'm going to try to work on that this week. It might take me all week to get through it without blubbering - ha!

I say thats totally normal. I love the idea of filming a video for her. Any good mommy would miss his or her little one, but you know you'll have fun once you get there.

@BabyBoecksMom: I am the same way! I've only left her with my mom for long periods of time. For me it's only bad until I drop her off and then I stop thinking about the what ifs, because I'm busy doing whatever I had planned. Try to relax and enjoy sometime to yourself. Like mr. Bee said make a video or write her a little note.

@BabyBoecksMom: can you record a little video for her telling her how much you love her, and give it to a friend or family member?

DH has planned a great, 5-day vacation for my birthday this weekend. I've been looking forward to it, but it hit me yesterday that I'm really going to be away from DD and I start crying every time I think about it. All of a sudden, I'm terrified to leave her and thinking about all the "what ifs" (mainly, what happens if our plane crashes and she never knows how much I love her... A little dramatic, yes, but I can't stop thinking about it).

Please tell me it's normal or what to do to feel better about leaving so I can enjoy this much needed vacation.

ETA: Writing our wills last week probably didn't help the situation...
