Talk to your doc about common allergens....ours said no reason to wait for anything (except honey, but that has to do with botulism, not allergies). We did homemade purees (usually from frozen or steamed veggies and fruits) for the first month and then moved to table foods.
I try to avoid added sugar and salt where I can, but she definitely gets some if we eat out, small amounts that I cook with, etc.

If you use frozen peas make sure you keep some of the cooking water because peas are grainy when you puree them.

I guess i'm just nervous.... there's is no history of allergies in our families but the doctor recommended trying one new food every 4 days - we go back on 4/1... can you tell i'll have a lot of questions

Apples - store bought babyfood, applesauce, or can i steam and puree them?

Spinach - fresh or frozen?

Peas - do i need to worry about the skin if i steam and puree?

We were advised to avoid giving him peanut butter and honey until after he was a year old, and we didn't feed him shellfish until after a year as well (but mostly because I don't eat it and won't cook it). He did have some fish, though.

At that age he really liked enchiladas (made with a sweet potato sauce) and eggs (scrambled). I remember those were big hits. I know some people put off feeding eggs if there's an egg allergy in the family (although I think the allergen is in the whites?)

We did BLW, so besides the things in the first paragraph I basically gave him whatever we were eating, spices and all (I've made a huge effort to cut back on salt). At 7 months he ate and loved jamabalaya and curries. Spice doesn't phase him all that much.

I've gotten some recipes from these sites:

http://weelicious.com/

Fiona is almost 6 months old and breastfed with some formula supplementing. As far as solids go we started introducing a few things rice cereal, smashed banana, and this week we tried carrots (big hit!) next week we'll try sweet potato then avocado. I steamed and pureed the carrots and sweet potatoes myself but i'm not sure where to go from here. What else can i make myself? And what is better to purchase premade? What are the big no-nos at this age? At what point can we try simple seasonings? Any recipes or websites would be super helpful.

We have some nice big raised beds for vegetables, but no plans to put anything in them this year. We need to work on that! LO has been keeping us busy, plus we got discouraged last year when our dogs decided they loved tomatoes and ate them all as soon as they were ripe. Then we put in a fence so the dogs couldn't get to the garden beds, and squirrels started eating all of our greens :(

We have a huge garden, 110ft long. We moved in a year ago and it was a jungle - it took me all spring to salvage the established plants that I wanted to keep and then plant up the areas I'd cleared - flowers, shrubs and herbs near the house (plus a little tomato patch) and a veg patch further down the garden. Unfortunately, we had the wettest summer in living memory last year and, veg wise, what didn't get washed away was eaten by a plague of slugs! I was heartbroken!

Here are some photos taken before the rain started! I love my garden! I hope I have the energy to tend to it when the weather perks up here - if it ever perks up!!

I love gardening but I have not garden in a while since the birth of my son two months ago. I love planting herbs because they are easy to grow and they make food taste great without the added amount of salt/sugar. We recently bought a home where the previous owners had planted tomatoes, cabbages, and kale but they were dying. The house also came with 3 orange trees, 3 lemon trees, a grapefruit tree, and a guava tree which makes for good juicing and making ceviche. I wish it came with an avocado tree, then I would be making guacamole every day. Once my son is older, then I would go back to gardening again since we have space for it.
