I don't give them. My daughter is an awesome eater who eats a ton of fruits, veggies and fish, so I feel confidant that she's getting everything she needs.

DD got half a flintstone with iron (not gummy) starting at age 2. It was recommended by the ped since she was slightly anemic. She loved it. No need for gummies in our case.

@irene: I'm not sure why it's necessary but I know tons of moms who give their kids daily multivitamins so I asked my pediatrician about it and she said it wasn't necessary. I do give my son DHA supplements but I try to feed him his vitamins through smoothies and I hide it in his favorite foods. I do get tempted to give him a vitamin on those days when he doesn't get much nutrition though. I would email the nutritionist! It doesn't hurt. The worst that can happen is that she just ignores you. :)

@banana: I wish our doc said the same...! I also wonder why is it necessary. People don't have things like that many hundred years ago and kids all grew up fine. But then I guess kids grow stronger / taller...etc. nowadays with the supplement gummies? I dunno. I wish we were still seeing the nutritionist so we could ask her, but I feel bad to email her now (as we no longer see her).

We are also giving him (or at least offering) 5 food groups for lunch and dinner each day.

My pediatrician actually said not to give the vitamins because they're not as easily absorbed as fresh food (obviously). She said to give him a veggie/fruit smoothie every other day and that should suffice. She tends to go the more "natural" route so I'm not surprised by her recommendation.

My son eats two vitamin gummies and two DHA gummies every day. He loves them (they're like a treat for him!) and no cavities. Now he's 2.5. Man, do NOT try the DHA ones - they're like gummy bears that taste like fish oil. But he loves them!! We use the ones that look like Cars and Nemo (we get them at Costco).

I just brought this up with our pediatrician at LO's 2 year appointment and the ped said not to worry about it because LO eats a pretty balanced diet with a lot of fresh fruit.

LO refuses to eat them. And I don't know about cavities because we haven't been to the dentist yet. I tried them because I was worried that she wasn't getting enough protein..... but then she started eating more protein on her own anyway.

At our 15 month appointment our pediatrician recommends us to start giving LO a multivitamin gummies everyday if he'd take it. I am concerned that it will bring cavities, but he reassures that those things are sugar free... but gummies do tend to stick to the teeth, and LO is already not a fan of brushing /cleaning/wiping teeth!

Toddler moms (1-2 years), do you:
1. give vitamin gummies to your child?
2. do you guys have cavity problems?
3. what brand would you recommend?

Thanks!
