@Mrs. Pickle: I did the same for my October baby! I probably wore a nursing tank every single day with a cardigan or a button-front shirt over top. I also liked big thin cotton scarves that could double as a nursing cover. The ones from H&M are awesome and also probably the cheapest option at $24.99 for a 2 pack. I didn't buy a whole lot of "nursing clothes" because I found them to be even less cute than maternity clothes.

I wear a nursing bra and regular clothes.

ETA: I got some cute looser fitting t shirts from old navy I lived in the first weeks PP. Easy to pull up to nurse and forgiving on the midsection ;)

I love the idea of a comfy open cardigan that you can wear while pregnant or nursing, especially over a nursing tank. I'm 4 months PP and really appreciate the soft flowy tees I've accumulated! Maybe some that you can throw on over leggings or skinny jeans come fall?

Honestly, I would hold off on stuff that is specific to nursing. If you want to get some new things but don't want to just get maternity, maybe some comfy open sweaters? Those are nice for both maternity and nursing. I am at the same point in my pregnancy right now and I just stocked up on a couple long sleeve maternity shirts and some new (non-maternity) cardigans for the fall.

The reason I suggest waiting is that I bought nursing tops at the end of my last pregnancy and ended up hating them all. It's hard to get the right size at this point, and also, nursing stuff can be very finicky. I ended up preferring just normal u-neck tops that were extra stretchy so I could pull them down as needed.

I also like tanks with shirts over for the early days. I have a Loyal Hana shirt that I like, and a Madeline Maternity shirt I like. I also have a Soon nursing dress. But in reality- shirt dresses, button up shirts, baggy tshirts are all super easy to nurse in.

Honestly, I would recommend buying a couple tops and then holding off until you're nursing and know what works for you. I ended up not being a fan of specifically designed nursing shirts. I wear a basic tank or camisole under every shirt I wear, and pull one up and one down.

Hi all, I'm starting to feel frumpy coming into my 3rd trimester and hate to spend money on clothes that I will only wear for another 3-4 months. I'm starting to look for nursing close where I won't look so drabby. Any recommendations on where to get nice nursing shirts? Thanks!

Not sure if this is the right board, so please move if not.

My sister, BIL, their 20 mo daughter, me, DH, our 3.5 yo son, and my parents are planning to do a beach photo shoot! I'm so excited about this opportunity, as they are few and far between.

This is where you come in: I'm almost 20w pregnant and am sporting a very obvious bump (aka I need to wear maternity clothes). I'm not sure we will be into matchy-matchy with all white or black shirts and jeans. We'd like something that will look good and is also easy to acquire if we don't already own the item. The photographer suggested we wear tighter-fitting clothing because it can be windy.

ETA: It will probably be high 60s, low 70s.

Do you have a favorite family beach photo that illustrates a casual, yet put together look? Links/images appreciated. Thanks!

Note: I already own a coral-colored casual dress (which may not be great in a windy situation), white shirt, black shirt, jeans, leggings....DS owns chambray or denim shirts, khakis, jeans. DH owns jeans, khakis, a variety of plaid button-down shirts. No idea about my parents, though I do know they at least own jeans.

I'm also in the "dress it up with accessories" camp. My wardrobe consists of nice basics (some great jeans, tons of stripe and solid tops, cardigans) and classic accessories (belts, necklaces, lots of bracelets). I invest in classic pieces so I do spend a bit of money on those items but I don't shop often.

Basics look so much better with a statement jewelry piece or handbag.

I read this fashion blog for wardrobe inspiration: http://looplooks.net/ One of her recent posts about pairing a cardigan with jeans was really good because I look so plain otherwise. I like her style a lot too. It's fashionable and relatable.

I have tons of accessories, so learning how to pair them with clothes is key for me.

@Mrs. J: another thing i had a problem with in the past is i would buy something cute and not have an idea what to wear it with. rather than a must have piece (the basics guides are a great starting point), maybe you could recreate a couple of great head to toe. pinterest is a great source for inspiration. i tend to have a couple of go to outfits, and i can always mix it up a little by changing the accessories.

@Mrs. Bee: Thanks! I've been looking at your post about wardrobe basics--I think I need to definitely invest in some of those and some accessories, rather than too much "on trend" clothing.

I agree with @Mrs. Bee, basics mixed in with fun accessories can help make your wardrobe go further. I think staple pieces to have:
ankle pants (black/navy/white), solid colored shirts & a couple stripes, a nice pair of jeans, maxi skirts/dresses, black pointe dress, and a pair of dressier shorts. You can mix and match all these items to build different outfits and throw in some color with fun costume necklaces/bracelets, scarves, shoes, bags, ect. These things are cheaper to replace!

i found that accessories are really what can transform an outfit. so i tend to wear basic things (last night i wore a striped dress with tights and ankle boots. But i also wore an anchor necklace, a wrap bracelet watch, and a big scarf.

I have a decent amount of jewelry, and that really changes outfits up. I never spend a lot on them either. Usually street vendors, banana has some cute pieces as does Anthro.

Have you checked out Boden ( DO NOT get distracted by the kids section, it's adorable!!!)? I really like all of the things I have ordered from there, from dresses, tunic tops and blazers. I haven't bought pants from there, because I wear basically two styles, both from Banana Republic (Hampton and Jackson).

I also do skorts from Athleta (before you wrinkle your nose, they're not the skorts from our childhood). They're a skirt with bascially bike shorts under neath, so you can function just like you're wearing shorts, but with a skirt!
