An apartment that I had a few years back had them stacked in a utilities closet off my bedroom. Very nice. The only thing is that the hatch only opened at a 45 degree angle, and wasn't as large, so if I had a big winter duvet in there, it kind of needed to be manoeuvred out. </p> <p>I've only had mold once, in several years, and I've only recently started leaving it open slightly. The front loader was such a pain BC it would leak water in middle of the cycle every now and then. It also always had this musty smell even though I would leave the door open for hours after each cycle. We do keep the door open when not in use, and we've only had to clean out the seal once or twice since we put it in (a few years ago). I like that LO can help load the washer because she can reach it. But if you don't like the front-loader, then replace it! That said, I find the front loading part to be a PITA and would rather have a top-loader.
