I have a front loader, and I just toss in one of those tablets made for cleaning the washer and run a sanitary cycle!

I do take out the drawer where you put the detergent/softener once a month and wipe that down too so that it doesn't get moldy.

I have a front loader, and previously I washed it by pouring in some bleach. Now, I just toss in a mixture of vinegar and baking soda.

I never cleaned ours. Using cloth didn't make it dirty and there was no odor left behind.

My mom got me this stuff for Christmas but I have yet to use it and I don't know if it is CD safe. I'm sure if you used it and ran a rinse it would be fine: http://www.washermagic.com/. There is a dishwasher version that I have used before and it did a good job.

I only started to do it because my washing machine doesn't sit quite level in my house here and gets a little mildew-y smelling at times. I just run some bleach through on hot, and then do a few cycles on empty after that. Then I wash a load of towels or something I don't care about, because the bleach smell persists for a few washes. But it doesn't stain anything.

Eh, I rarely clean it, but when I do I just use the Tide packets.

ETA: We use cloth, but it doesn't seem to be any dirtier than when we didn't have diapers to wash.

We've made the switch to cloth, and love it!

....but now I'm thinking it's going to be important to clean my washing machine on a regular basis. I'm ashamed to say that I've never actually cleaned ours. We have an old top loader with the big agitator.

So how do you clean your machine? Do you clean it differently if you cloth diaper?

I've never done anything special to our front-load HE machine either. I try to leave the door open to let it dry out and always make sure the gasket doesn't have any little water puddle left. I wipe down the gasket rim with a Clorox wipe every few cycles. Never had any smell or issue.

I've never cleaned it, but sometimes use bleach in the laundry so I figure that does a good job of cleaning it. I am careful to leave the door open so it doesn't get funky in there.

we have a front loader & use a cleaner (forget the name, i got it at target, it's a blue pkg) if it gets stinky. but now we try to use warm water sometimes and always leave the door open for it to dry out which has really kept it from getting icky.

If you have a modern front loader the best thing to do is run it with just hot water. That cleans it better than anything else, because any other solutions or detergents leave residue

Okay, so I will admit, I've never thoroughly cleaned or sterilized my washing machine before, but I recognize that my machine is probably gross as heck! We wash cloth diapers in there as well. We have a top loading washer and I'm always aware of the dirty clothes/diapers that touch the top of the agitator where the water doesn't get to it, and that kinda grosses me out! How do you wash your washing machine? How often? What cleansing solution do you use and what is the water setting you use?
