I'm going to be in DC next week too! I'm going for my annual work trip, but I always stay for the weekend afterwards.
I would echo several people above, Georgetown is not metro friendly. I don't think the cabs are too outrageous though, so you should be fine.
Going to the National Zoo would be fun, and another idea would be to go to the National Cathedral. They have a nice nature trail and pretty gardens outside.
My fav restaurant in DC is Founding Farmers, it's not fancy, but nice. Not sure how kid friendly it is though.

As a DC area native, it was hard to justify paying for admission to a museum in DC when so many of them are free, but the Newseum just blew my mind. I haven't been to the Spy museum, but I've heard from many people who've been to both that the Newseum is a lot more interesting. Great for kids and adults.

http://www.newseum.org/

Also fun, interesting and VERY YUMMY is the Maine Avenue Fish Market.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/maine-avenue-fish-market-washington

Union Market is a relatively new indoor market with really wonderful and unique food and shops.

http://unionmarketdc.com/

And, as others have mentioned, the National Zoo is really fantastic.

http://nationalzoo.si.edu/

If it's your first time in DC, you absolutely must take a long walk to:
1) take a stroll down the National Mall, stopping by at whatever museum(s) tickle your fancy (Air & Space and Natural History are my faves!),
2) Walk around the Tidal Basin to the Lincoln Memorial
3) Take a look at some of the other monuments and memorials. (The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is beautiful in its simplicity, and the FDR memorial is also wonderful and beautifully constructed.)

http://www.nps.gov/nama/planyourvisit/index.htm

Do you have any interest in any type of cuisine? DC is known for its Ethiopian dining scene, as well as new ramen and Japanese shops popping up all over. Let us know if there's anything more particular you're looking for!

Everything - save the nicer restaurants - is really kid-friendly in DC.

The zoo is a must. The Building Museum has a toddler room full of blocks and other fun stuff - my DD loves to play there. All of the Smithsonians are free and stroller-friendly, so just pick the ones that you and DH want to see.

If the weather is nice, it's a beautiful walk along the river from Georgetown down to the Lincoln Memorial (my favorite place in DC). The zoo is also walkable (through Rock Creek Park) if you are up for it. Georgetown itself is gorgeous - we spend a lot of Saturdays just meandering around the streets. There are two great parks in G'town - Rose Park at 27th and P and Montrose Park at 30th and R. Both have big areas to run around and nice playgrounds.

In terms of restaurants, I am not sure what your speed is for dining out with LO, but here are a few kid-friendly suggestions close to Georgetown (which, unfortunately, has terrible restaurants):
The Tackle Box - casual, take-out style seafood on M Street in Georgetown
Sweetgreen - *amazing* salads. Locations all over the city, but one on M Street and one in Dupont.
Cafe Deluxe - north of Georgetown on Wisconsin (you can take the bus or drive - or walk, but it's a lot of uphill) or at 24th and M (close walk from Georgetown), casual, American-bistro food. VERY kid-friendly and good food.
2 Amy's - same upper Wisconsin location as Cafe Deluxe. Excellent brick-oven style pizza. VERY kid-friendly.
Le Pain Quotidien - on M Street near the east end of Georgetown. Simple, Belgian/French-style food with lots of organic produce and divine hazelnut spread for toast. Great for breakfast.

@My Only Sunshine: we've taken Chloe a bunch of times. The first was when she was 4/5 months old.

She loved the zoo, even at that age. So much to look at. The fish especially caught her attention. I personally loved the panda :)

We've done the museums with her. The last time was in December, so she was 26 months old. I was surprised how well her attention span was, even at 12 months of age.

Yes, as @Weagle mentioned, Georgetown isn't very close to a Metro I used to live just north of Georgetown, and basically bussed it everywhere.

The DC Circulator busses have 2 routes that go through Georgetown, and one will get you to Dupont Circle, and the other will get you to Union Station. Then you're on the red line for Metro, and can get around from there. There are tons of Metro busses, but I find for my friends from out of town, the Circulators are super easy to use- they're big red busses (so hard to miss!), they're generally clean, and pretty easy to use and figure out.

http://www.dccirculator.com/

Georgetown isn't exactly metro friendly, so you'll have to do some planning on that front. There are tons of free things to keep you busy the whole time you're here. I love the Smithsonians (keep in mind the dinosaur exhibits are closed for the next several years). The Newseum is my favorite paid museum. I love breakfast at Eastern Market on the weekends and the Playseum is nearby - good for kids.

Capitol Tours are super easy to get, White House tours are a huge pain and have to be planned quite a bit in advance

There's a great waterpark in Georgetown down by the river. I can't wait for my son to be older and we can take him down there. I found this great site that talks about it in more detail:

http://kidfriendlydc.com/2012/07/16/its-all-good-at-georgetown-waterfront-park/

As for stroller friendly - M Street in Georgetown has very narrow sidewalks. And they aren't smooth. So it might be a little rough if you're hanging out on M Street. But all metro stations have elevators. So look for those. And I agree with @sunshineandsushi - head down to the Mall and go to museums. I love the art museums - Hirshhorn, National Gallery, they both have nice outdoor sculpture gardens.

You can also go to the Building Museum. And the courtyard of the National Portrait Gallery is a nice space too. Both of these options are nice places to be able to bring a little something to eat and sit indoors.

Hopefully you're at the end of Georgetown close to Foggy Bottom...otherwise, you might want to walk across the Key Bridge into Virginia and take the Rosslyn metro.

If you have any questions - I'm happy to help!

Sequoia is a Georgetown waterfront restaurant and the food is yummy.

Sticky Fingers is a vegan bakery- really good cupcakes, fun atmosphere. I'm not sure how far/ easy it will be to get to from Georgetown.

GranvilleMoore's is by far my fav restaurant. The Belgian beer and mussels are out of this world good. Reservations are necessary.

Do you like museums? The Spy Museum is really fun and is at least a half day visit if you buy tickets to the interactive spy game.

For some funny pics especially with a small child visit The Awakening sculpture.

Hi ladies! We're taking a trip to DC next week for 4 days with our 11 month old daughter. We'll be with family but also have a lot of free time. I would love to get some bees' tips on things to do and places to eat. We're staying in Georgetown.

Our daughter is young enough we don't necessarily need kid-focused plans, but we do need to go to places that a kid would be welcome. We'll also have one day solo while my mom babysits.

I'm thinking we're going to basically just park at the hotel and then walk or take the Metro everywhere. I'm a little concerned about whether everything will be stroller-friendly though.
